I dunno, JT might not be as effective as he was 5 years ago, but personally I think it's bizarre that after Tavares had a career year with Marner on his wing in the first year of his contract he's pretty much never played with Marner again. He started the '19-'20 season with him, but then once Keefe took over from Babcock, he put Matthews-Marner together and has basically had them together permanently up until his recent injury. I don't know how you don't try something that worked so well again at all for basically 5 years, it makes no sense.
Are you suggesting that perhaps Keefe might possibly have done something that maybe was conceivably bordering on odd?

"Inconceivable!"

Go stand in the corner and don't come out until you apologize.

Even though he was out for a while it looks like Marner is going to lead the team in assists again.
He's tied now with Nylander in 13 less games.

Not sure how many years in a row this makes, 5/6?

I think a lot of people would appreciate how good Marner is if they compared him to Nylander more. It's shocking how bad Nylander has been lately. It's been weeks now too. At least when he's scoring we can live with his horrible defence but when he gets in a slump wow is he bad. It's absolutely mind blowing that Nylander will get paid more than Marner next year.

Im shocked that Domi has a significant amount more 5vs5 assists than Marner. Domi has 36 5vs5 assists while Marner has only 28. Marner has played significant more mins with Matthews and Tavares too.

I'm expecting a big playoff from Marner this season. They clearly gave him plenty of time off to rest while healing up from his injury. He'd better take advantage by playing well.

You can do it, Mitch!

At some point, common sense will have to prevail.

If Marner expects to get paid 12 million plus on his next contract, management needs to recognize that for the same AAV, we can have a Bertuzzi, Domi, and a solid defenceman.
For sure, they could also have taken that route with Nylander who most consider a lessor all around player.
We'll know more this summer.

Marner will be signed. AAV will be high. No trade clause, NMC.

Leafs have bottom of the barrel D or G for the rest of time. No deadline adds stay (no money).

If we get bounced in the first round, you would have to assume that Treliving will at least reconsider our cap allocation. I know that there is only one more year to bridge the gap until Tavares is off the books, but the point still stands regarding the best use of 12 million dollars in cap space, not to mention the assets we can recoup if we traded Marner.

If nothing else, his injury layoff proved that this team can still be dangerous offensively without him. The special teams have also continued to struggle since his return.

I would obviously prefer to keep a high end talent like Marner, but we could potentially be a much deeper team with a stronger blueline if we go another route.

Pretty risky to let a guy like that walk and hope there are quality UFAs available to bring in.

For sure, but if it's more of the same in the playoffs again, I feel it's a risk that might be worth taking.

Regular season accolades can only go so far.

They’ll still be next season and playoffs to get through

Regular season 7 long winter months, something to look forward to. Playoffs could and most likely will be over in less than 2 weeks, I can get over it quickly while I’m casting for those spring trout. lol!

Leafs can have both once Tavares contract comes off the books. Worst case they'll have to wait until the summer of 2025.

I mean Bertuzzi and Domi are producing like first line wingers over the past 14 games with Matthews.

Great for us, not so great for Marner. Just more evidence that the Leafs should be careful with their next Marner contract.

Less than a page of posts in a day, it's so much better this way.

Assuming that Domi plays, anybody else like to see Marner play defence on the Bert-Matthews-Domi line occasionally and also make that the core of the PP?
