He was/is Team Canada's David Kampf or Pontus Holmberg. He was not moved down to the line up because he was tearing it up. Reinhart was also MEH the first two games but he was not moved down and he played well yesterday with 3 assists and a couple of good hits.

Canada's David Kampf or Pontus Holmberg should not be one of the highest cap hits in the league and Team Canada.

That's the problem with Marner. Marner at 8M dollar is good value. Marner at 12M+ is horrible value.

He wants to be paid like Canada's star player while being Canada's David Kampf/Pontus Holmberg. Therein lies the problem.

Guessing Cooper will ride his top two lines in the final. Top lines will play 20+ minutes. The bottom 6 will play 10 if they are lucky. Truth is, Marner is playing himself into the press box. He should be thankful it is only a 4 game series.
That is not the truth. Seth Jarvis played himself into the press box. If anything Marner will play more.

Nobody mentioned ice time when Marner was second for forwards first game, it was dismissed. Yes, his ice time is down, they switched up the lines and he’s on a more defensive line. He had two blocks yesterday, they had lots of zone time, played fine. Now points dont matter, it’s ice time, well that works both ways, 88 and 34 are getting top PP and STILL did shit. Bottomline, without Marner’s goal in game 1 we might not be playing Thursday. This place is a joke it really is.
I mentioned ice time though you are right in that it was dismissed.

This absolute failure of a showing at the four nations has ended his 13m+ gambit. You can't square the circle
Marner hasn't had an absolute failure of a showing at the 4 nations. His clutch goal won the first game. He was good in the next too. And the final has yet to be played.

He's not playing more if the top two lines get more minutes. Only way to tilt the ice for Canada is to play McDavid and MacKinnon more, not Marner.
No, Cooper will attempt to win the game. He will play whoever will help do that including Marner.

I’d agree, the 4 nations showing has definately going to hurt his contract negotiations
Let him walk and enjoy playing in SLC, Columbus, SJ or Chicago.

Yes, Marner should be in the lineup but I do not expect him and the bottom 6 to get more ice time than they got last game, especially of the Americans have the lead. Only way they are beating the Americans is on the backs of 29 and 97 and push back when the Americans play their physical game. Marner is an afterthought at this point IMO.

Maybe they just giggle behind your back and point at you when you wear your Leafs jersey.

Which is worse?
Maybe. It would be behind my back, so I wouldnt know. Although when I was in Phnom Penh, someone shouted out Baumgartner when I was wearing my sweater.

It's always a bad idea to spend 14M on a small, playmaking winger.
If you're a small playmaking Right Winger like say Patrick Kane also an ex London Knight, then your trophy cabinet better look like this, be warrant a TOP NHL salary.

but rather 3 Stanley Cups !!!!.

All of that earned FIRST before he received his $10.5 mil deal.

In Marner's own mind he must believe he is in the same category as Patrick Kane, yet he hasn't won a single trophy yet.

Rather astonishingly however is that some Leaf fans view Marner as this irreplaceable player, that deserves be among the top 5-10 highest paid players in the game. Other Leaf fans simply shake their heads in disbelieve over a player that struggles year after year come playoff time and crumbles under pressure and contact.

Sure. You don't like Marner and don't think he has played well.

No it makes perfect sense that the bottom 6 will play less than the top 6 in a winner take all game. Cooper will be roasted alive if he rolls the lines the same way he did last night.

Marner was demoted from the top line to the bottom 2 lines. The reason should be clear to even those who worship him if they are being honest.

I was at the Bell Centre taking a leak when a drunk Montreal fan screamed "1967!" as he walked by me with my loser Leafs jersey on. I had a good chuckle at that.

I'm legit surprised we haven't seen the usual Marner's the best player on the ice comments from his inner circle.
The Marner PR crew have vivid imaginations but they are reeling after yesterday's game. They probaby still can't believe he was demoted to the bottom 6. Have no fear, they will be back in full force once the regular season restarts. They will then disappear in late April and reappear in late September. Rince and repeat.

It depends on which lines are going. If Marner's lines going they will play more. If they are not, they won t. Depending on the what happing kn the game Cooper will juggle the lines. Whatever it takes to give the team the best chance to win.

MLSE mishandling of this rebuild is already up there with Doncic in Houston. The team is among the worst run organizations in the world.

I’d also try out a thought experiment and throw out a Mitch Marner vs Jake Guentzel comparison. Needless to say Guentzel doesn’t have the high end reputation of a Marner or has flirted with 100 points as Marner does. But he has cup winning pedigree and looks really comfortable on the big stage. So when factor these things all in, there’s definitely a $ figure to consider when you pay for the name brand prestige of one player vs big game characteristics of another.

He can ask for whatever he wants. It´s his right to do so. The real problem is that we are willing to accomodate his demands.
We have been enablers for a few years. The madness needs to stop.
