Did you type that with a straight face?
Just did an IP search where that post originated from and things are a lot clearer now. :wg:

"Marner is worth a decent amount more than Rantanen"

:sarcasm::sarcasm:

If Rantanen got $12, Mitch doesn't deserve a penny more than $11.5. Which is not to say that someone won't pay him more.
You guys are getting closer to the true number. lol. 11.5 maybe but squeeze for that hometown discount, no moving necessary, shot at a bronze statue on legends row, family is here. Are you going to move for 500,000 a year when you will have made 150 million? 11 it will be. lol!

Highly doubtful but IF Marner was willing to take 11.5M, the same amount as Nylander a year later with the cap rising dramatically, you take that and run. You don’t try to squeeze him below Nylander.

Take the 12 Mitch, the bar has been set. You can argue who you’d like, but it comparable. A bit more than Nylander, it’s all good.
I just get this gut feeling he is walking July 1st, hate losing a talent like him, I suppose the cap space is nice, but he is someone I do not want to lose.... hope I am wrong though

If we tank first round I can see it, anything else I think he's back. The cap space will just see big over payments in July, so many teams have cap space this offseason, it's going to be an overpaying mess.

Well if it does go past July 1st he loses year 8 even with us. I think1 he extends here at 1 minute to midnight.

Today helps us sign Marner in my mind, it puts a marker out there, it gives Tre a powerful reference point and it makes Marner's agent look unreasonable, because is better it all we've already offered him the same money Rantanen just signed for.
Hope you're right.

Last 3 full seasons:5v5

Rantanen with Mackinnon GF% 60.87
Rantanen without Mackinnon GF% 42.50

Rantanen is a byproduct of Mackinnon.

It really just reinforces the floor. Marner was always going to get more as the better player.

Except in terms of goal scoring and playoff production.

Marner may very well and try to use free agency offers to test your argument this summer, but I'm not confident he's going to find teams falling over themselves to pay him noticably more than Rantanen, unless he's potentially willing to go to an absolute bottom feeder like the Ducks, and then he's free to throw away the rest of his prime

Sigh..

I tend to agree Rantenan was bumped up playing in the situation he was with the Avs but I’m curious about the sample size without Mack besides the handful of games in Carolina.
Actually the data is the last 3 full seasons so this season doesn't count.
