Mitch Marner, Yet Again

I was with you up until the in reality if part we don’t need to go there everything sounds like a bunch of excuses marner hasn’t gotten any better eye test and stats both show that we don’t need the hypotheticals and excuses facts are facts one players getting better the other is declining or remaining stagnant and not in a good space to be stagnant at all

The only player who became better in that serie was Woll, the only one...

Here is everyone who assisted on Matthews' goals last season:

Mitch Marner 33
William Nylander 18
Morgan Rielly 10
Matthew Knies 8
John Tavares 8
T.J. Brodie 5
Pontus Holmberg 5
Max Domi 5
Tyler Bertuzzi 3
Jake McCabe 3
Timothy Liljegren 3
Noah Gregor 2
Ilya Lyubushkin 2
Mark Giordano 1
Conor Timmins 1
Calle Järnkrok 1
John Klingberg 1
William Lagesson 1
Bobby McMann 1
Nicholas Robertson 1

The whole Max Domi thing was more about the entire line not Max, but you're dealing with a guy who is disingenuous, he should be avoided.

omg bro, if I could buy you a coffee I would honestly. You just saved me so much time doing part 1.

This is gonna save me so much time. Now all I'm doing is checking the entire 82 game log from last year and I will tally how many of Auston's 5 on 5 goals were assisted vs unassisted and that will give me all the proof I need. If it turns out Antro is right about Marner not being effective, I'll gladly eat crow, but my gut is telling me once we calculated assisted vs unassisted it's not gonna be pretty for Antro LOL, and I fully understand it's dealing with someone who is disingenuous but I'm doing this so other posters honestly open their eyes and do a bit of research for themselves and not just believe any cherry picked stat posted on here. I'm tired of it, I'm sure none of the posters who support him will give a damn anyways but for my own integrity and to validate my posts I'm gonna follow through with it.

Last year Matthews had three unassisted goals.

anyone who buys what Antro is saying is gonna be hard to reason with

Some people are Marner critics (I like to believe I am), but he's a straight hater lol.

Thanks! You’re awesome are yiu able to tell me if that’s 5 on 5, or just raw goals total
Last year the 3 unassisted goals were EV. This year his 3 unassisted goals are EV. Don't know if that's 5v5 or 4v4 or 3v3 that would take work and this stuff doesn't.

25 assists on Matthews 5 on 5 goals is almost half of his 5 on 5 goals, what are you talking about? That’s why I asked for a complete break down of assisted vs unassisted goals. If you break it down by assisted goals I’d estimate it’s even higher than 50% of Matthews assisted 5 on 5 goals and antroprovsky knows this is true. He can’t even deny that.

Ngl this convo might be a little too complex for ya baud
🤣😭😭🤣 you been getting spicy lately eh you got something on your chest you wanna get off hahaha you wanna run a fade bud 🤣🤣😂

Okay I’m gonna do the 5v5 stats myself since he was mentioning 5v5 and I want to be thorough, but you’ve been a big help. Thank you.

Honest question.

Has any UFA in the cap era ever actually publicly refused to Leave the team and then leave as a free agent?

Or would Marner be unprecedented

What exactly do you want to know? I'll do it, it's much easier for me.

I’m trying to validate the claim Antro made by saying Marner wasn’t effective 5 on 5 with Matthews. He posted Marner’s 5 on 5 assists and did not post any other line mates.

So I wanted to create a ratio between Matthews assisted 5 on 5 goals and Marner’s 5 on 5 assists totals on Matthews goals to verify the validity of the statement. A bit complex of an ask but it’s the only way to really know for sure.

He wasn’t asked to leave was he?

Yes he was, the team ask John to waive his NMC and he said no. Same exact as Marner, that’s why fans are pissed, JT was asked to waive at the deadline, he said no I want to stay and then left them in the summer. I’m not sure if that was publically put out though. So it could be speculative, but I do believe they asked him if he intended to stay.

Semantics I guess but I don’t think they asked Marner to waive. They checked his interest in going to Carolina.

The Maple Leafs made it clear to Marner that their preference is to re-sign the six-foot winger to a long-term extension, but presented the option of moving him to Carolina after the Hurricanes inquired about him as a possible return for Rantanen.

You keep mentioning quality of competition but you ignore quality of linemates. Tulsky actually said quality of linemates is more significant impact on a players production then QOC. If Tulsky says quality of linemates matters more than quality of competition....then why does someone as knowledgeable as you keep excluding it?
Does he really say that though?

Tavares refused to waive a NMC?

There are rumours that he refused to waive it. But nothing concrete I could find. Could just be angry isles fans and media putting that out. Usually those things if they do happen stay quiet and don’t get out. Except for the leafs of course.

This article references that there could have been some trade noise around the deadline but Tavares wasn’t going to waive because the Isles were in a playoff race and the GM/AGm declined to comment on the speculation.

Last season Matthews had 51 EV goals. That's 5v5 and 4v4 but not 3v3.
Marner primary assisted on 15 of them and secondary assisted on 6
Nylander is next with 8 primary and 1 secondary
Domi 5 primary 0 secondary
Knives 4 primary 4 secondary

The rest have less that 5 combined including Rielly

I would never hold it against any player for not abandoning his teammates if they’re in a race.

Not exactly. He had a NMC and M-NTC.
The isles could have traded him. That’s different then refusing to waive at all or negotiate

He had a modified ntc. He could have been moved

I think he means he made them feel like he was resigning and then he left cause I doubt they would trade their best player it’s not like us where we have 3 players who are in and around equivalent to Tavares and can afford to trade one
