Marner is not playing well and he really seems off.
But to say he is entitled or doesn’t care. I don’t buy that one bit. If anything, I think he wants to do well but just couldn’t figure out how bc the knowledge and skills he knows are not working.
Think he better realizes whatever he thinks can work or be successful is no longer working. He needs to really look at players like McDavid, Mack, Patty Kane, Kuch, Point… and see and learn and adopt his game.

I don't see how anyone overstated his experience.

I would guess neither of us have enough of real information on the matter to make a sound judgement.

I do however from a lot of experience know that for whatever reason ( kids and young adults) have a harder time overcoming stress and seem to fall prey to mental illness nowadays. I do have a lot of ideas on the why this is but that is for a political forum.

I also know that whether I believe someone's situation seems over amplified,, it doesn't dismiss how real it is to that person. And money doesn't fix those kind of issues.

it's because kids are coddled these days. The way parents (and the school system) handle children and young adults today is the reason they have a harder time overcoming stress, falling prey to mental illness.

society figured they had an improved way of child development.... only to find they didn't.

Marner is empty calories. He'll end up with 90 points on the year somehow and then have more puck over glass penalties in the playoffs than points.

I don't think I've disliked a Leaf star player more.

He brought it upon himself to be honest... He got greedy and selfish... asked for the world.. then doesn't perform and only looks at his point... He pads his stats in games that dont matter and against shit teams. Rarely shows up in big games but the worst is....

He doesn't take accountability for anything... nothing is his fault, he always does the right thing in his eyes and he makes himself so unlikable...

Marner is our Ben Simmons.

He demanded an A in his contract, marketed himself to be some kind of Patrick Kane or Gilmour comparable where his true comparable is probably Backstrom, wanted to incorporate the numbers 93 in his contract salary because Gilmour is his favourite player, refusing to be removed off the left flank of the PP, and I'm sure there's more. Sounds pretty entitled to me.

But I agree, I do think he cares. Perhaps not for the same reason you think.

I wouldn't say that he's lazy or entitled or doesn't care, because he does seem competitive, but I also don't see any evidence that he's trying to get better at the many aspects of his game that are lacking, sooooo...

Agreed with all.

I think the Dougie thing is just a tribute. A is something I don’t mind as both AM and him are supposed to lead the Leafs for the next decade.

He just needs to keep his game simple instead of wanting to make a highlight reel play in order to win fans and praises.

It's really asinine to ask for something like that in your contract salary and think it's some kind of actual tribute to Gilmour. If that doesn't scream narcissism to you, then I have nothing more to say.

God forbid that "A" or 11M contract actually be earned after proving to be a real winner. Make no mistake, Matthews is to be criticized too but he plays centre and I'm realistic.

If he really was a gilmours fan and wanted to do the right thing, his caphit should have been 9.3 million not 10.903

I don't blame Marner for his contract, he can ask or demand but it's up to Leafs management to make him accept something in the range of his comparables

They didn't, now we are going to choke on it for the foreseeable future

Don't blame the child for being an entitled greedy brat, blame the people that enabled him

The comments he made the other day about the puck crossing the line with that smirk really doesn’t help his PR branding.
He seems like a player who'd be hard to coach. The kinda guy who would have 6 minor penalties in the playoffs and 5 of them are "over the glass" because he knows more than the coaches and he won't change what he's doing.

I think his PR branding has been make a great play and that’s all you need to get fans to support you.
The fact that he did the love letter or whatever you called it after the contract was a huge joke. How can any PR or Leafs players not see the reaction of JT’s love letter from Isls fans as a precaution or lesson not to do something like that is beyond me.
If his PR team was smart, they would
have issue BLM statements before all the other hockey players issue theirs to get ahead of them and win some cookie points, bc there is no way NHL and NHLPA ain’t doing anything about that when it happened.
Also, it would not hurt to promote Marner with more social work esp with under privilege kids to help change his image.
Most of all, he just needs to perform in the playoffs.

Marner’s saving grace was that he could at least put up points during the season. He can’t even do that anymore. He’s too mentally weak in regards to moving on from a disastrous playoffs.

You look at a guy like McDavid who had back to back devastating playoff exists, including a sweep, he comes out ready to go and doesn’t let the past negatively effect his play, but fuels him to dominate even more. Marner is the polar opposite.
