Marner because another skilled or skilled players not in double digits.
Knies graduates full time.
The D is overhauled.
Woll/Sam platoon.
We play a hybrid style that can skill in the refit season with more dump and board play in the postseason.

He left the team and held out for three months what makes you think he will take that while matthews is at 25 and willy just dulpicated his goal total this year

Well if the pundits are pointing to the fact that matthews will sign for 15 in what world would willy
Sign for 8/9. Is matthews worth 6/7 million more than willy.
Willy and his agent will point to this contract and say
Willy scored 40 too and was just as good or better than matthews in the playoffs.

When you overpay matthews like last time and now once again you can’t expect other players to get paid less when they are just as good.

Everyone talks about how great matthews is but if he was that great he would take the team on his shoulders and win a playoff like other great players do.
Im tired of seeing him get ragdolled and skating away smiling. He is 6 3 220. We trade for guys with
Zero years left on their contract. Why should these guys fight for him when he won’t fight for himself. And i dont mean drop the gloves i mean push back .

Imho matthews and his 15 million dollar contract is the one to go. We will never win a cup with one player being so greedy,

100%. Problem is they have proven that you can't win with 4 forwards making half the cap and if we keep them, that won't change soon enough.

Lots of teams haven't won with 4 forwards making 1/4 of the cap(made up number).
IMO, if you have the right combination of 23 guys you have a chance. If you don't, it really doesn't matter who makes what.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. Connor has 3 years left (last 2 with a modified NT)
Gives us a year to extend Hellebuyck.

Jets would have 2 years to extend Marner. Only problem Jets might not like having to pay Marners 7.255 SB Even then I think Jets say no only because they know Mitch will want an increase after his contract expires.

I think we'd also have to throw in a pick.

I think Woll is ready to be #1. Rather not trade assets for a goalie. I'd be okay going with Samsonov/Woll or even Murray/Woll, since Murray only has one year left.

What a joke. this is whats wrong with the leafs and their fans. What does he do in the playoffs to deserve that much money. Marner gets the crap but matthews nylander and tavares have achieved exactly the same ZERO.
If we pay matthews and he does sign for 15 million why wont nylander ask for 12/13 after getting 40 .

Matthews always gets a free ride. He doesn’t deserve a raise period. If he wants 25 trade his ass out of town.

1) we are absolutely not going to need to pay 15 million.
2) players contracts are not really based on their playoff production. We should expect more there, but it doesn’t really chance the price he can command
3) he does very arguably deserve a raise, so it’s not period. But there is a definite limit. 14-15 million is not something we should entertain.
4) Matthews has gotten far from a free ride. Marner has maybe received a bit more criticism, but they’ve both received a ton.

Anything starting with a 12 is fair. Starting with a 13 is palatable IF it’s on the lower half

Warranted criticism is not crying. JT's contract is only one problem. Refusing to admit these 4 taking half the cap are never going to win a SC is another. How much more samples do you need ??

You say refuse to admit like it’s a black and white issue. But it’s not really. While we may not agree with the build philosophy, the fact it has not worked does not mean it inherently cannot work. It’s definitely more challenging cap wise though.

Our team was good enough to be better this year on paper. The fact we were let down mostly by our core guys in round 2, indicates this could be less of an issue with cap allocation and more with who we chose as those 4 players

We could probably flip Hellybuck (terrible spelling) after a year or so but Kyle Connor isn't known to be that complete of a player, or last I checked. Tavares is aging. I'd prefer to put my chips on Woll/Murray or Samsonov and spend all the money on defense and depth. It would be great to somehow keep Oreilly. Watching the playoffs back and he was the most consistently noticeable leaf, in the games I've rewatched.

There are loads of non playoff teams who would die to overpay him as a 1C .. especially teams who need da playoff gates to survive .. half of nhl teams barely survive from a P&L standpoint .. which is why we have da CAP to keep teams paying salary .. if a team like Ottawa makes da playoffs and gets 6 home gates you are talking about 30M to new owner .. if he gives half to Matty he is winning .. da trade partner must be a non playoff team .. take Batherson Jacob C and 3 1st rounders and Ottawa jumps for joy .. in TO it makes no difference as team can triple salaries and still give Larry his 25M dividend .. until NHL accounts for arena sponsors in HRR this gulf will exist .. they don't because that $$$ goes to arena owner not team (except many team owners also own da arena like Leafs, Rangers, Habs) .. there is so much financials to unpack here unless you have seen Leafs numbers like I did when I was at KPMG you can't understand it .. but da big $$ teams benefit as they keep that $$$ for themselves .. it is not shared with da players 50/50
