Thinking it through...

- If Nylander is leaving we need to keep mitch. If we can sign Willy Mitch needs to go
-JT isn't moving and he isn't a #1 c for us long term if at all anymore. Neither is ROR if we kept him. #1 C is as hard to find as #1 D.

Based on these my propsoals...

Nylander to Avs for Byram
Marner to LA kings for Kempe, Clark, Peterson, 2nd

His game is less suited to the playoffs than Matthews or Nylander.

Skills and fancy stuff work less than op stuff like physicality, speed and a good shot.

Boomers have short term memory
TBH I'm not a fan of generalizations like boomer, gen X, millennial etc. and I'd disagree with his stance on Marner no matter who he was.

Disclaimer - I'm a boomer too so take it FWIW.

He should spend some of those Millions on an english tutor. What the hell is "We got belief"? Did he not go past grade 3?
I don't think they're allowed to fail people these days so in terms of what he actually knows, grade 3 might be more or less where his education level is at. Honestly, I don't even care, I'm used to it. What I'm not happy with is how he choked in game 3.

Don't trade just for the sake trading him. Only if the right deal comes along.

But this off-season does have the

Tony Fernandez Fred McGriff for Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar in 1990

DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard in 2018

Vibe to it.
Problem is Mitch is the Alomar/Leonard in any trade.

I don't give a shit about equal value, I want a team that can compete in the playoffs. Team is the operative word here, what we have now is a bunch of individuals and hard to see us winning like that.

Sittler was traded for a bag of pucks, we don't have a nutcase running the team and we'd obviously get a ton back for Marner. What an godawful comparison, you should know better.
I think everyone has to realize that Marner will be gone after his deal anyway. He was willing to throw out his childhood dream when he was turning RFA just to sign with CBJ. If anyone really thinks he will stay here and be scrutinized to death for anything less than almost Connor McDavid money...I don't know what to tell you. Get what you can for him and get something better for the team...the return might be less than you want but the net effect might be way more positive. Get some young blood in here like the way Knies provided a jolt.

So, so, so bad. Can't do anything in the playoffs... is our leading point producer in the playoffs over his time with the team.

Zero accountability
Zero gaf

Honestly just looks like someone who has been a gifted athlete their entire life, personality wise I've just had enough. The arrogance and overall nonchalance for someone who just failed for nearly a decade is too much.

I just wanted to hear " I did not play up to the expectations of my team and myself and WILL be better next year" ...No puck luck excuses of it not dropping (are we talking basketball here?) no xGFA crap....just say you didn't produce and will do everything over the summer to get better. But no...we get an indifferent attitude as if they are being persecuted like 3rd liners making $2m and being blamed for the failure of others. That makes me sick...own it....you wanted to be paid like a superstar...now act like it.

I really don't like making decisions based on results under Keefe. I am not sure he is a playoff coach and I am also not sure he will get the most out of elite talent as it is a common complaint that many coaches bend a bit to much for their top players, whether to keep them happy or because they feel uber talents need more leeway to produce. This was among the comments about Gallant with NYR after he was fired, who got massive performance out of his early lunch pail Vegas lineups. It isn't necessarily about being tough, but maybe more able to read how far you can push them to follow your system without ruining the relationship. Not every coach has the ability to get his top talent to 100% buy in. What the Big 4 do under the next coach may be based on how much the new guy can get into the heads of these guys to help them find the next gear.

Unfortunately the above would take a season under the new coach to see which of the top players will respond in the way you hope, so Dubas should have done this last year.

Now I think they make their decision based on which player(s) are most driven to squeeze the maximum dollar out of the club. That is who they take out, subject to the available return.

Keep Marner.
Our best player both in Regular Season and in the Playoffs.
Best player 5 on 5
Best penalty killer and best player on the power play

If you trade Marner you might as well trade Matthews because there’s no way in hell he’s gonna stay if Marner is traded

Yeah, i'm trading Mitch Marner to Columbus for Boone Jenner, Adam Boqvist, LA 2023 1st, CBJ 2023 3rd. Immediately fixes 2C problem and adds some big time toughness, adds an intriguing puck mover to the back-end, all of a sudden we have two 1sts and can either trade those for help now or package them to move up if we have an interesting player fall into the mid teens. Also opens up more than enough cap space for a Nylander extension. Plus we know Columbus has coveted Marner and considered offer-sheeting him.
Before they got small center gaudreau

I think Mitch stays while Auston and Nylander get traded to different teams… unless they both go to Edmonton.

Nylander led all forwards with a -4 in the playoffs
Maby not use the most useless player stat when trying to defend your stance.

The fact that there is fans that think Nylander had a better playoff in round 2 is a big failure, for both Matthews and Marner. Not even the most bias fan should be able to put Nylander before Marner or Matthews. That is how good they should be. They were not near that good. They are and should be held at a much higher standard then Nylander. Had they done there part to the fullest we would have won every game round 2. Nylander played closer to his best then they did. Thats all.

Tavares should be traded. Put him on forth line until he gives up and ask for a trade.

Matthews and Marner on this team for 8 years guarantees playoffs for the next decade. Since we at least made it past the first round i think trading Nylander this year for a big package makes better sense long term. Tavares isn't going anywhere and we don't have the cap for Marner Matthews and Nylander. The fact is Matthews and Marner are probably best freinds and Marners a much better all around player then Nylander, he's also one of the best pkers in the league.

So because they are friends they should both stay? What kind of reasoning is that? This is NHL not kindergarten. But it touches on what seems to be a problem within this organization. They are all friends from top to bottom and rub each others back so that they can all stay and live happily ever after while making big bucks, but without winning anything..

He is one of the mentally weakest playoff "performers" of the ENTIRE league. The more important playoff game the worse Marner gets. The closer to game 7 you get the more he will disappear.
