He won his last cup in 2014 and we're discussing playoffs success, not value.

Yes, 2014 was 11 seasons ago.

In the last 10 years Doughy has won a total of 7 playoff games combined.

He’s not the same player he was in his prime.

2014 is still in the last decade... He won one more cup than Marner in that timeframe. How can you even argue that Marner had more success ?!

2014 is not in the last decade. It’s 11 years ago, a decade is 10 years.

2015-2024 is a decade. Doughty won a total of 7 playoff games (games, not series) combined in that decade.

yet he is tied with Matthews in pts in the playoffs over the past 4 play off seasons
You say this as though Matthews has been impressive.

Matthews has had a few series in which he was good enough. Others in which he clearly was not. Same with Marner.

Matthews is quite obviously the better player, though, not particularly close.

2014 is not in the last decade. It’s 11 years ago, a decade is 10 years.

2015-2024 is a decade.
Lmao.

Drew Doughty raised the cup over his head on June 13th, 2014. It it currently May 5th, 2024. May 5th comes before June 13th.

Do with that what you will :)

Something something working out every other day

Since people struggle with keeping track of how 10 years works I’ll spell it out.

1.) 14-15
2.) 15-16
3.) 16-17
4.) 17-18
5.) 18-19
6.) 19-20
7.) 20-21
8.) 21-22
9.) 22-23
10.) 23-24

Doughty won 7 total playoff games in the last 10 years (decade).

Here's the deal about Marner some teams are not concerned about his playoff performances teams looking to get into the playoffs like SJ, Chi, CBJ, ANA, OTT, MTL, DET, STL and so on all will want him as he can produce in the regular season which can help a team make the playoffs.

Don't tell me Chicago will say no he has no value cause of his playoffs. Marner and Bedard might be enough to get Chi to the playoffs. Don't tell me adding him to DET or ANA doesn't push them closer to the playoffs.

No value is bullshit all teams value players at a different level.
You think Marner waives to go to any of those teams.

You're confusing years with seasons.

June 2014 to June 2015 = 1 year
June 2015 to June 2016 = 2 years
June 2016 to June 2017 = 3 years
June 2017 to June 2018 = 4 years
June 2018 to June 2019 = 5 years
June 2019 to June 2020 = 6 years
June 2020 to June 2021 = 7 years
June 2012 to June 2022 = 8 years
June 2022 to June 2023 = 9 years
June 2023 to June 2024 (we're in May) = 10 years

Hahahah wow. Since specifically you and no one else struggle with keeping track of how 10 years works, I'll spell it out:

1. Drew Doughty lifted the cup on June 16th, 2014.
2. June 16th, 2014, was 9 years, 10 months, 3 weeks and 5 day ago.
3. 10 is a bigger number than 9.
4. Another word for bigger, in this case, is more.
5. Another word for a 10 year period is a decade.
6. A year is a 365 day period.
7. 10 years is a 3650 day period.
8. Drew Doughty won the Cup 3611 days ago.
9. 3650 days is more than 3611 days.
10. Drew Doughty won the cup less than a decade ago.

I hope this helps. If you want to argue that something that happened 9 years and 330 days or so ago happened over 10 years ago, well, par for the course.

Leaf fans are setting themselves up for mass disappointment if they think Marner will be traded (or will waive). Totally infeasible.

Contending teams won't take him due to his post-season apathy nor would they have the capspace.
Rebuilding teams don't want a rental - especially one that earns 11M. Even with retention a rental doesn't make sense.

There is really not path to a trade. He walks after next year.

Devils have the cap space and the positional need.

Whether they want to use that cap space for a rental is another question.

If Treliving makes it clear that he's not getting extended in Toronto, maybe he will. I mean he can talk how he has no social media but all of his friends and family are from around Toronto. They will let him know how the fans feel about him. I'm pretty sure many players at that point would want a change of scenery.

I mean I wouldn't go to any absolutely bottom tier club, he has a contract year upcoming next season so he wants to produce on some level.

Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo, Nashville... Those are some names I would consider from teams that missed the playoffs. With Buffalo, he would still be pretty close to home too. They have a logjam in defence (I still don't know what they were doing with that Mittelstadt-Byram trade). So maybe Leafs could trade Marner for Byram, or Marner ++ for Power or something I don't know.

Marner will fetch someone like Darnell Nurse in a trade. Similar high contract, not a #1 D

Other teams also see Marners massive flaws. Super skilled forward yes. But completely ineffective in postseason with tighter checking

He's like a higher priced Kessel

Sure, but that’s under the assumption that Doughty has the possibility of winning it this season which he doesn’t because he was already eliminated in 5 games.

When I said decade I was referring to seasons, not the exact date. He last won a Cup 11 seasons ago. If you want to get all technical we can wait until June 17th and then I’ll say Marner had more success than Doughty in both the last decade by date and seasons.

If Marner agrees to waive, it will be a very limited number of teams IMO. Tampa, Florida, Vegas like usual. You can pretty much say the same about any player that has control through a trade clause or being 1 year from UFA.

Honestly, as a Red Wings fan, I can back up the fact that I would love to have Marner because he'd help us make the playoffs. Furthermore, whereas Toronto has skill in spades to go with a lack of heart, we have heart in spades to go with a lack of skill. We can handle Marner's issues to take his benefits. We lack star talent, Marner would be that for us.

Despite that, I can't honestly see Yzerman paying a premium in a trade and contract for him. As a fan, he is frustratingly committed to the doctrine of "play the right way, with the right attitude, maximum attention to detail, step up in big moments, team first, etc." Raymond is a similar profile to Marner as a smaller, skilled winger. He also has a history of stepping up in big games- like the gold medal hat trick in his draft year, and his hot streak down the stretch in our playoff race this year. Kane, like Raymond, steps up at the big moments.

Then look at how smaller, skilled wingers without those qualities get treated by Yzerman. Yzerman did not pursue Debrincat with any determination. He low balled in the trade and the contract negotiations. It really was only Debrincat's determination to make it happen that brought him here. Berggren has that same profile and is having a very hard time making the team despite showing that he's too good for the AHL. It didn't take long for Yzerman to turn on Drouin.

Certainly, Marner is the best player of these by far, but the point stands. He's just not Yzerman's type and I have to imagine someone else will outbid us in a trade/contract.

ANA needs an RW but our GM has been building (and doing it vocally) a team that can win in the playoffs and Marner does not have a good sales case there even if he's a great player. He takes a lot of capspace and is an UFA after next year. So there is little incentive for us to trade for him. Again, a great player but there is so much else that goes into decisions that I just cannot see Pat being overly motivated to get him. Even if for some reason MM waves for ANA
