Everyone is real quick to give shit to Marner for Leafs not performing in the playoffs, but the truth is he has has 11 goals, 39 assists and a plus-minus of +10 in 57 games in the playoffs in his career.

Which other team has a player with similar stats in postseason, while being a 100point player in the regular season that fans will say "yeah ship him out, hes the problem"?

Im not saying Leafs should continue with their initial plan moving forward, but people suggesting Marner is some kind of bum who has no value are just batshit crazy. If Red Wings got Marner i would be just f***ing laughing and dancing around with joy, dude is one of the best wingers in the world.

Edit: Not for 14million or something absolutely ridiculous that Toronto probably offers him, but like in normal numbers.

8x10 for Marner, yep lets do it Stevie.
Know what those numbers don't show? How many crucial penalties he got. How many times he flipped the puck over the glass at a crucial time and got a penalty destroying any chance the Leafs could have at winning.

I think you're missing a big part of the rationale; The Leafs have proven year after year that having 4 forwards eating half their cap space simply doesn't work.

Now that Nylander is locked in at $11.5M that's one 10M+ winger too many if Marner wants to extend, so even if Tavares is not extended or given a much smaller deal after next season this formula is a bust.

One simply has to go and even if it's based solely on the fact that he's the one that doesn't have a new deal yet, then so be it. But his playoff performance overall (especially this year) vs. Willie's seals it.

True, but it’s still going to be nearly impossible to trade Marner. And if that impossibility does actually happen then will the return increase or decrease the Leafs’ chances of winning? What cannot happen is what Treliving did to the Flames with the return for Tkatchuk. Better to take no contracts back and clear Marner’s cap.

I can’t imagine any scenario where a cup contender concludes “you know what ingredient we’re missing? Mitch Marner” lol.

And I can’t imagine Mitch Marner agreeing to waive his NTC to play for a bottom tier franchise either.

I could see Utah being interested for branding purposes.

If they get marner to wave, don’t expect an equal 1v1 type of trade.
Even if he’s a reg season producer, and a playoff passenger, teams still need that to get there.
He also carries a 10.5 cap hit and needs a new deal soon…..
If tor can get a deal done, they should only do so if the 100% plan on doing with the extra cap space.
That’s what likely makes the return on marner a futures heavy( prospects/draft picks) package in return.

I honestly don't know where the Marner hate even came from? Nylander has 1, 90 plus point season and gets 11 million. Marner basically got hurt, then Keefe like an idiot doesn't put Marner back with Matthews to secure his 70 goals. Also Marner played on the 3rd line most of the playoffs???? Hes a 100 point player, probably the second best passer in the league (behind Mcdavid) and one of the best penalty killers in the league. He just gets paid to much. Unfortunatly he will play here next season and then get 12 mill x 8 because he guarantees us playoffs every year, and that matters to leafs ownership.
