Marner doesn't want to walk into FA with a team that wants to trade him. That's putting a lot of pressure on him. The team could very well say we'll take Domi and Bert on the 1st line again with Nylander heading the 2nd line. PP1 we can't have 2 non shooters and without Marner's cap space we're probably running Rielly PP1 again.

Even with a good regular season, another bad playoffs and it's all for naught.

Btw, it's kind of sad how Marner signed his contract as a 90 points player and is a 90 points player going into his FA year.
Thr retool wount be finished till next year.
Get 2 or 3 solid dman
Montour
Tanev

They can’t let Marner leave and get nothing except cap room back.
No GM in Toronto will be willing to take the heat.
And the heat could last forever in this town.

Ask yourself honestly: would you waive if you were Marner or would you take things to free agency? In the end, he earned that option. If I'm getting grief from management and fans, I'm saying f it, let's see what the end of next season brings. Last season was the lost opportunity when they had partial control over Nylander and they sat on it. I love both players btw, I'm not commenting on anything except the business side.
He’s still pretty immature and has a very fragile ego, so I can completely see him giving up and waiving and going somewhere else with less pressure and where he’ll be looked upon better. I don’t necessarily think that’s likely, but a few years ago I never would have even thought there was a possibility this guy willingly waives in Toronto.

Nashville is also craving offense and star power.
Their offense was alright, around top 10 and they have Josi and Saros for stars.
Not saying they wouldn't be open to adding another star but from what i've seen Marner wouldn't be at the top of a Barry Trotz list.

12 million plus upcoming for this………and some want to extend him. My God have our standards fallen so low that we are prepared to kill off another 7-8 years with this same ineffective core

What if the only alternative is to extend him for 12.5 @ 8 years. Would that be better

perhaps Berube will depoly Marner differently than Keefe did, maybe he's on the 2nd or 3rd line, maybe he sees less pp time...............
Very true.

But pretty unlikely, I would say - at least in the regular season, his deployment, usage, and play has been just fine, and I don't see any scenario where he's playing non top-6 minutes and not on PP1.

If he gets hints from early conversations from Berube that he's going to play a big part this year, then I don't see him choosing to do anything other than stay, bolster his numbers, and then use that as his ticket into a big free agent deal.

I am hating all these articles and insiders now saying….lets see what happens with marner and he may not go and they should run it back with berube.

I swear if this happens again with no trades to the core and especially marner then I will be livid.
Some are late to the party but we forgive and understand fans too have temper tantrums.

If Marner being willing to waive to go to Anaheim is true, I like the idea of a Marner for Mactavish and a 1st. Anaheim GM just said that they're ready to make a serious push and want to be competitive this year. Mactavish looks like he's going to be atleast a 30 goal 60 point guy and he's big and physical and they'd save a lot on the cap.

I blame Shanny more than anyone for setting a shyt culture and letting the players cruise. These were kids. What a mistake it was to let Dubas and Keefe show these guys the way lolol moron.

I do still think moving Marner is the right move for everyone. Team needs a shake up. Could be a win win if he allows it and Brad makes a good deal. Lets see

That would be wonderful but I’m not expecting anything of that value in return for Marner signed for 1 more year.

If we get a high end younger player I would expect a short term cap dump to accompany him and maybe a non 1st round pick. And to be honest even those expectations may be lofty.

Unfortunately the Marner trade rumours look like they are entirely speculation or made up lol.

Just curious to the thread creator though; it is a thread with a poll about trading Marner and then proceeds to be snarky about people discussing the subject. Everything is redundant about the offseason. Should we all collectively stop participating until we get news?

We're all bored here. No need to take shots at users in your own thread.

Better yet, be brave and make a less wordy poll. Do you want Marner traded
-Yes
-No

One makes 3 million, plays physical and fights
The other makes 11 million, doesnt play physical and dances.

5v5 season stats:

720 minutes with Marner
Matthews total points/60 with Marner: 2.75
Matthews total goals/60 with Marner: 1.58

206 mins with Domi
Matthews total points/60 with Domi: 4.93
Matthews total goals/60 with Domi: 3.19

Remember... it has been Marner boosting Matthews stats the last few years and Tavares in 2019.

I'll take Domi for 3million Povsky.

You better stop sharing your hate facts or else you may get in trouble.

He can’t be resigned.

If he wants to suffer through a year of scrutiny, then he’s dumber than he looks.

His cap hit, for his skills, is just too high.

Nobody will pay what he wants.

But he should leave for the highest bidder.

He could help a team. If Matthews could skate with the puck then he could work well with Matthews. Marner is a rebound guy in the playoffs. There is no room for his open ice passes. So his game just doesn’t translate.

If he is signed WITHOUT full trade options then this team isn’t serious.

Berube won’t want Marner like players.

Mitch needs a change of scene.

It would be a real shame to start next year with him.

I really don’t know why a team would want marner. The guy is useless come playoff time.

And yet we’re keeping the guys who have produced less and are worse defensively and hardly a criticism is to be heard.

Marner hasn’t been great in the playoffs but the hate-on going on for him is ridiculous.

At this point I kind of hope he goes elsewhere and then lights it up like the others on the long list of scapegoats run out of Leafsville.

His stat-line for playoff goals as a soon to be 100M offensive winger
2024 - 1G in 7 games (no impact on outcome)
2023 - 3G in 11 games (good Tampa series, non-factor against Florida)
2022 - 2G (scored in game 1 and game 2) in 7 games
2021 - 0G in 7 games
2020 - 0G in 5 games
2019 - 2G (both in game 1) in 7 games

That's enough.

Well done. Any GM who takes the $12M plunge on Marner deserves to get turfed (or massively ridiculed).
