In case you haven't seen this gem...the $11 million flyby...just pretend to be getting the puck so you could fool the idiots that you're competing and trying...game 7, down 1-0, in your own zone, and Marner was terrified of Brendan Gallagher...yep, we're going to win a Cup with this kind of leadership...your alternate captain...

Yep this has occurred for many many years so nothing new here .. LOL .. he never has taken a hit ever to make a play .. i can only think of a few instances in 15 years .. and a couple blocked shots .. and whenever it occurs he gets hurt .. this is reason he never does it .. pro hockey is a tough game for da small man to play and when time and space goes away in playoffs it gets downright mean .. not a good place for Mitch

It was interesting listening to Jonas and James Mirtle talk about the Leafs making decisions not to piss off their core players because they’re scared of driving them out the door.

I could see the thought process behind giving Marner a letter being “give him what he wants, what could it hurt?”

It stretches credulity to think of Marner in leadership terms.

This is so backwards...if their motivation to stay happy and to compete comes from money, coddling and free gifts, and not from being challenged to be the best they can be, why do we need them around? We don't need multiple $11 million divas to make the playoffs, but we do need some serious heart and soul to win the ultimate prize.

Marner isn’t even that small. For reference, he’s taller than a Yanni Gourde, Brendan Gallagher, Brayden Point, hell, Cole Caufield. He just plays a precious game.

Sorry meant strength not height .. many guys like Gally who are shorter but plays like beasts .. some guys willing to pay da price to win others aren't .. to be fair every team can have 1 guy like Mitch on it .. it is when you have several like our Leafs do .. it never works out

He's gotta grow up and take his lumps if he wants to succeed in the playoffs, unless he wants to keep looking pretty for his instagram pics.

This is speculation by Mirtle and Siegel but it feels plausible especially from the Marner side and to a lesser extent Matthews due to the Arizona summits that were a regular occurrence with Babcock.

The damning thing about all this is if true, is if a guy like Marner already had too much pull in the organization leading up to the contract negotiations, why did Dubas walk him and Matthews to UFA status and not at least red line the contract term as a deal breaker and retain some organizational control?

If they don’t find some traction next year this organization could really implode.

I was excited when the leafs drafted Marner, but I'm disappointed now to see how things turned out. I don't care about this 90+ point seasons and sweet passes, I just want him to bring it in the playoffs and play like he is playing for his favourite childhood team and with emotion..

I'm conflicted about keeping him to see if he can become that player as he gets older (he is still 23/24?) vs. trading him away so the team can go in a new direction.

what kind of play did you have in mind? a takeaway?

Him and Matthews also have full NMC in the final year of their contracts (Marner the final 2 years)...what kind of joke is that? So you can't even trade these young guys in their final years when they might leave as UFAs...when did they earn those rights and why do they need them at their age?

He was never going to live up to that contract. He demanded it, Dubas caved, and it's ugly now. I still wonder about the "A", the whole PP thing - it's like they just want to keep poor Mitch happy
the annoying part is he actually probably could live up to his contract if he really wanted to. Matthews reinvented himself as a defensive player since signing and is worth his, even though that was an overpayment at the time. Marner just doesn't seem to have much interest in improving his goal scoring or skating or strength, and wants to live in his comfort zone

All Mitch has to do for some fans is throw a big hit, stand up for teammates, and show some fire. Then you could at least look to something other than points/goals

I'd just rather change something up and move him. We can't move matthews or tavares so it is between marner and nylander.

Nylander is better cap hit and marner should get more value in return. Sorry mitchy boi.
Explain to me please why we can't move Mathews and who exactly is going to take Marner ? Mathews is the most moveable piece we have and to see him skating away from scrums leaving his teammates to fend for themselves is no different than any of the things you guys accuse Marner of , you don't see Crosby , Mak or McJesus turn their backs on their team mates . He is replaceable heck Matt Martin has as many playoff goals this year as Austin Mathews , this we are paying for what he will become logic is simply Pejorative Slured you pay players for what they are and our ultra elite superstar can't carry his own jock in the playoffs let alone the team .

And this is why Shanahan, Dubas, and Keefe need to go. It’s really disheartening to think we may soon be looking at another rebuild.

If thats the case, both MGT and players need to go. Unless they won Cups, no MGT should cater to their players.

I honestly believe that Dubas thought if he did them a favor and overpaid a bit now..when the next deal came along the players would be appreciative and be reasonable on the next deal. He really thought he could be friends with them and get best of both worlds.

Problem's come up when agents want every single penny so they can get their % out of it. Look at Ferris...he is one of the lowest as far as agent fees compared to the big guys like Bobby Orr etc. Well, Ferris makes up for the lack of % by squeezing the crap out of the GM. So for the player going with Ferris its a win-win. Both the salary and commission work in their favor.

The players don’t run the team.
If they aren’t proud to be here, if management only makes moves to appease them, then they don’t belong here. Any of them.
A new GM needs to come in, explain the plan and ask who wants to be here and who wants to be traded. Hands up please.
