Inherent problem with your argument. The Leafs had the 6th best power play in the league last season. You know what changed? The coaching
Well, were you complaining about poor coaching last season when the Leafs were 6th? I don't even necessarily disagree with what you're trying to say, but when you go from 6th to 16th after changing coaches, the problem isn't always going to be the player.
That's an odd way to look at things though. Marner is a play maker who makes players around him better because of his abilities to pass the puck. You can make comparisons of Marner to Kane, whom he outscored this season . Kane got his 10 million dollar contract, before he scored 46 goals, his career high. Before that he averaged in the mid 20's , which isn't far off from where Marner is averaging today. The point is, Kane's goal scoring didn't explode until he was 26, does that mean I'm saying Marner will take the same path, or is the same level of player, I'm not saying that. But I am saying is , we simply don't know how Marner's goal scoring abilities will evolve in the future and considering he scored more goals last season than the previous and in less games, there's some potential for growth there. I mean , how many people truly believed Nylander would score 31 goals 2 seasons ago? And Marner outscored him last season too. Marner has to evolve and get better, there's no denying that, but Marner does have the makings of an incredible hockey player who can live up to his contract, or at least make it closer .
