I think he is better then average passer but There are also other great passers that don’t make 11 million. I’m not sure if that is enough for what he costs us.
I just think that he has too many holes for the pay cheque

wtf ? holes
hes a top playmaker in the league , a top point producer, and a top pker, and somehow has holes lol ... yeah ok ..

All over 1.5 million dollars.
Leafs fans suck.

agreed this is the basis/source of everyone hate ...
like seriously, are we all hating a player because of 1 mil to 2 mil dollars ?

Put him on a line without an $11m centre. If he can continue to put up PPG+ numbers, then perhaps he is worth the contract.
Sure would be interesting to watch with Nylander and Nick Robertson as the 3rd line actually. Probably the best third line in the game. I wonder if Nylander would have a career year in goals scored as Matthews and Tavares had previously playing with Marner. I would like to see it. Both top two centers would lose their right wingers but it changes the ability of teams to shut us down. That would be a good idea i think

What exactly is he elite at?
He is not relentless on the puck, he is not a fast skater, apparently he is not a goal scorer, he has disappointed the last 3 playoffs.
He hasn’t scored a PP goal in almost a year while getting top PP time.
I guess he is a good passer???
I watched most of the rest of the playoffs and there are many good passers that routinely make the passes that Marner makes.
I think he is a decent player in the right situations when there is no pressure but average the rest of the time.
I think in Toronto players get hyped way over their value often and unfortunately in this case he turned the hype into a major windfall with an experienced GM

Marner's put up elite numbers only when he's paired with other $11 million dollar players. Before his partnerships with Tavares and Matthews, his career high in points was 69 in 82 games. Now I'm not saying he wouldn't have improved his point totals, but I don't think it's a coincidence that he experienced a massive jump in points when he got paired with centremen who've achieved similar point totals/paces with lesser linemates before.

He scored 20 in 55 regular season games. Thats a 30 goal pace on 82 games. He’s not just a passer. He disappeared in the playoffs is why everyone was giving him the gears. I like Edges idea of taking him away from both top centers. I suggested Nylander and Robertson play with him. It would be new and fun and interesting for sure. I think that won’t happen but it would be a handful of a line as a third unit. Probably the best way of spreading out the scoring we have not seen yet. Wouldn’t even have to be Robertson if you think he needs 1 more year Ahl expierence. It could be bunting or Ritchie or Kerfoot. Would be interesting

I don’t think it’s coincidence Tavares and Matthews had career years scoring with Marner. Do you think Willy would have a career year with him as the third line. I’d like to see

I would be willing to try that but as long as Keefe is the bench boss I doubt that will happen. If he could power his own line away from the other 11 million dollar players he might convince me to cheer for him.
I watched him play many many times in London and was truly a fan but his greed, petulance and disappearing in the playoffs has really done a number on me supporting him.

It certainly would be the most expensive 3rd line in the league

Oh. He’s still my favourite player but I’ll rake him right over the coals if he deserves it. He deserves it for choking like he’s got fur balls in the playoffs last two years.
I’d like to see Nylander as our third line center going back a couple years now. I think he could dominate and cause some damage. Nice we have some players that can jump on his wing for a shift to straighten someone out if we needed to. Might be the most opportune time to try it now. Expensive yeah.

So what would be the trade market for him? Similar to the “equivilent of 4 1sts” that’s supposedly Eichels price?

Ya he does. He can’t score on the pp or the playoffs. He is soft on the puck over when it matters most, he turns the puck over way to often.
He certainly cannot handle any sort of pressure. He does not bring even close to 11 million value to the team

The lines certainly do need a shake up. My only concern would be if they move these expensive players down the line up can we afford enough quality players to populate the top 2 lines with the current cap distribution

I've been saying all along that anyone making 11 million should be driving his own line but JT and Mathews will tank without good wingers so I don't see Nylander moving to a line with Marner , this isn't a bad thing I think you give Mitch guys that can move at the speed he thinks and he will be just fine . Soupman would be good and then a power center maybe move Ritchie to the middle and see what that does , Mitch can take the draws if Ritchie can't get it done and the three of them can cycle with the puck .
The bigger question is what are the fanboys going to say when the other two 11 million dollar men stop producing ?

All 3 big money guys production will go down individually if only because now there's 3 lines splitting the game time . The new line mates production will most likely go up on each line though so overall the goals will ballance out .

Tavares and Matthews wouldn’t stop producing, they just wouldn’t produce as much. I don’t know why everybody bites on who’s driving a line debate. They all help. All our top players can drive a line. They really didn’t work together very good on the powerplay for some reason. I think because Morgs had a terrible year on the point. His luck was brutal.

I see no reason at all to think this would happen.

I like to think this is true as well with the idea being to have 3 lines playing roughly equal minutes .

Check their past stats , when one or the other plays with 2 very lesser linemates their production has sunk , thats why everybody wanted Marner to move to Mathews line to boost Mathews stats but really is the increase in Mathews stats greater than the loss of production another line suffered without Marner ? It's really supposed to be about boosting the teams overall stats not justifying salaries .

Kid Kyle as well........and therein lies a major problem.

The half season he played with Kadri the season before JT came i believe Marner put up close to PPG. I'm sure someone has those numbers

Loved Marner coming into the league, used to catch knights games regularly and was so pumped we got him.

With that contract, he demanded an absurd amount as an RFA and used the media to manipulate and create a situation where the leaf's hands were forced. Although I do believe Dubas loves his guys too much this is a situation brought on by Marner's greed and ego, nothing else.

So everyone should feel justified to lash out when he doesn't perform, Marner's absurd ask contributes heavily to this team's cap crunch. If he is unable to at least meet the contract value that is 100% on him.

Guys like Marner playing for the blue & white should clean up in sponsorship money, which he has done in addition to his ridiculous salary. I believe combined hes 4th in the league.

From someone who loved Marner, I don't get why people are defending him. He's not worth his contract, simple as that.

What kills me is that the 3 amigos not only got overpaid, signed for less term and were given boatloads of bonus money and one was made whole and told he would not be traded. Sigh.
