I see the play McCabe made immediately before the pass as more impressive, and it was by a 2 million dollar defenseman. Knocks down clearing attempt, and makes a split second no look tape to tape to Marner.

If a 2 million dollar defenseman makes that, why are we jumping up and down over Marner with more space than McCabe making the cross pass?

Or how about 3.75 million Domi's pass on goal 1, very impressive.. forechecks, steals puck, picks up loose puck next to opponents net and with back to slot, pivots, sauces It by two Jersey players to Nylander in the slot.

Nothing sexy but If Marner don't do that pass before to mcmann before sending it to Nylander, it would result in a easy blocked shot from nylander at best. The small little play to mcmann is what opening the ice for his teammate. Marner/Mcmann made it possible and Nylander/Matthews helped to convert it.

2nd matthews goal, just took a hit to create space for Matthews with a incredible finish by Matthews. Again nothing spectacular, just a basic play who just accept the hit

ot goal, just wait to give a chance to his teammate to make a change and saw NJ trying to make a change too, so they attacked it. Nylander just jump on the ice and was already on breakaway. Marner made this possible possible and Nylander converted it, both deserved credit.

Its not crediting marner for what Nylander did, its crediting Marner to made it possible.

I appreciate the breakdown. Just to clarify the poster i was responding to in that post said Marner took the shot, creating the rebound allowing Matthews to score when it was actually Nylander.

Also, im not sure id call that a hit, a bump? The Jersey player wasnt skating with any speed, there wasnt a risk of a big hit at all. Its a simple, typical, drop pass when entering zone. Not fancy and not uncommon.

A big part of Marner’s game is the shifty, unexpected little thing that opens it up offensively. He saw an opening and made a clean stretch pass that led to the winner that NJ couldn’t defend. There can’t be any criticism there, he wasn’t required to do anything else.

I’m not criticizing the play, but people are acting like it was something special, which some do for every single thing he does. He sucked for 2 and half periods last night, but had 3 or 4 really good shifts after that. Just needs to bring that intensity in the postseason

Lmao no one called it special or even hyped it up. I don’t think you can quote a post in the last 12 hours calling it special. And pretty much everyone agreed he wasn’t amazing last night. To end off the third period he was stellar with Matthews. Seems like a lot of projection.

Yeah, there's always seems to be a few that take this stuff way too seriously in that they're under the delusion that the player would want the same emotional connection with them as they do the player. Right off the bat I'm reminded of the Robbie Alomar stuff a few years back.

Both kadri and Kessel were my absolute favourite players the moment each were traded, immediately stopped caring. If Mitch leaves it would be the same thing. I would not be cheering him on to win a cup somewhere else. But you’re damn right I’m gonna appreciate him as a leaf.

Itd not about doing anything special, Crosby 90-95% of what hes doing on the ice are not spectacular but he still one of best player of all time because he's doing all the small stuff shift after shift and pretty consistent in everything hes doing on the ice. You don't need to be magic on every play to be a pretty great player.

It is not about making highlight of the night play but rather playing a mistake free and consistent game while producing. Sid and Ovie are prime examples. Sid is the better player while Ovie is more flashy. Would take Sid over Ovie any day but that’s not a diss to Ovie, just that Sid is better.

If he’s getting hate after last game than Matthews and nylander should be as well. And at that point it just seems too much to hate after a win, i love hating after a loss, but not a win tbh.

He was alright, made plays when we needed, as did the other three.

Last games best player was McCabe.

Shooting from distance alone without shooting lane will result in anything
screen without anything else doesn't would create anything.
Scored on rebound is impossible if you dont get any rebound.
moving the puck fast between 2-3-4 player alone doesn't bring anything alone.
