If he’s getting hate after last game than Matthews and nylander should be as well. And at that point it just seems too much to hate after a win, i love hating after a loss, but not a win tbh.

He was alright, made plays when we needed, as did the other three.

Last games best player was McCabe.
Nobody was hating... below ive attached the very first 4 posts in this thread following the game. By just two posters.

Spot the trolls. Hint, its also the same posters complaining about the sheer volume of posts about Marner compared to other leaf stars Lol. Seems like they actually are intending to get people going doesnt it? (look up troll under HF policies).

Dude was awesome tonight!

Hate to see it.

Fastest Leaf in history to 700 points. I hate him!

Hopefully someone is going to through the tapes to deduct the low calorie ones he piles up. See what the real number is.

So I guess we should credit everyone on that PP, as well as the players on the bench, for every PP goal. Everyone should get a goal or assist

If you want a good pp you should credit the unit because pp is a team concept. If youre trying to play individual on po, you've gonna suck whatever how good you are.

Watch all good PP how they working... A lot of team having high skill player, the difference is how everybody is involve and help to moving the puck, forcing to move the boxes and doing all those detail. That's the difference between great and bad PP and if you try to understand why leafs PP had been bad...

Right now everytime is about marner set up play for nylander or matthews in the other side. . Nylander waiting in his side for an opportunity to take shot, matthews doing the same in the other side and leafs became extremely passive. The difference on last PP, mcmann didn't stick to wait in the slot, Nylander didn't stick and move to give himself a better shooting lane. Matthews didn't stick close to marner and goes to the net. Did everyone get credit yes because its the reason why they scored, THEY PLAY AS A TEAM ON PP

There should only be one counting stat per goal scored, the stat should be credited to the player who executes the most consequential action in the sequence resulting in the goal and there could be a baseline minimum score for goal vs assist, but then you multiply that value by like a degree of difficulty score like diving or figure skating

Itd not about doing anything special, Crosby 90-95% of what hes doing on the ice are not spectacular but he still one of best player of all time because he's doing all the small stuff shift after shift and pretty consistent in everything hes doing on the ice. You don't need to be magic on every play to be a pretty great player.

Sometime you making a great play but sometime you just making what needed and its the same with everybody.

I will take exemple of Nylander because its happenong. last night... 1st goal was great. His pp assist he just did what he had to do and in OT when he just jumped on the ice and was already on breakaway, he did nothing special just what he should do.

Same as Matthews, his 1st goal on pp he just did what he should nothing spectacular but his second was a amaizing shot.
Sniping a top corner on a one-timer is nothing special.

Getting a shot from the point through traffic is nothing special.

Scoring on an NHL goalie is nothing special.

Buy making a pass from one blueline to the other with no opposing players in between is special?

Someone is special.

In case you didn't know, the entire game of hockey, offence, defence, 5on5, PP, PK, basically everything but the shootout, is team play.

Making some weird exception for the PP just so you can pretend that what Marner did on that one goal was more important than what Nylander did is really pushing it.

1- start to read first, my message was pretty clear. Its starting with small little thing ( never talk at any time about sla special play)

Sniping top corner from bad angle or distance, if you don't have screen, you will not score a lot... with a defender in shooting lane that will result in a blocked shot or shot in spectator netting

A shot with traffic but without shooting lane will result in an easy blocked shot or a puck going side to the net.

If you don't create space and shooting lane, nothing will happen. Its starting with moving the puck to created those opportunity.

you don't need the flashy play to make an impact in a hockey game.

a goal rarely happening with only 1 play like a defender passing the puck to you right in the slot will mot happen a lot, most of the time it will be result of a 4-5-6-7-8 + little play who will make it possible. Leafs powerplay goal is the perfect exemple.

-mcmann move of his position to give a pass option to marner
-Marner pass to mcmann and thats created space for Nylander who took the space ans put himself in great position of shooting
-Nylander took a good shot with no hesitation and created a rebouns
-Knies goes in front the net to create a screen
-Matthews moved of his position and came closer to the net, took the rebound and out in...

Remove anything of this sequence and this goal never happen. So its your choice if you want to focus only on the lastest part, but its not how hockey working

read the message before posting anything, that will help.

If someone talking about pp, i will talk about PP, not about penalty kill or 3v3 game or whatever... That's doesn't mean it can't be true for the rest of the game

At this point, mod should just close this thread and keep a MM thread off for a week or two.
It is not even funny anymore, just pure toxic.

It's not so bad.

People don't want to be duped by Marners regular season mirage again. They witnessed the past years and are holding his feet to the fire.

You may not remember this, but Nylander was constantly put under the microscope, including by Babsocks to which there are memes of Willy being his whipping boy.

No need to be sensitive about it. We are just being Canadian throwing some shade over this overpaid hockey player there bud.

None of which relates to anything in my post. Perhaps you should take your own advice and read first.

The level of negativity they bring is just not very becoming of a Leaf fan. I think it's important to hold a player accountable in the public sphere, impactful or not. When your teams coaches and managers aren't willing to do it, someone has to and it may as well be the paying fan that pays $1k to watch these guys not even care to put an honest effort in unless its a contract year.

Imagine spending your days tearing down a guy's contributions. As the coach said after the last game "there isn't much he can't do". Sad people.
It can be a crazy world at times but that is a strange hobby for sure.

I’ve been on these boards since 2007 I’ve never witnessed anything like the Marner threads. Even Bolland, Clarkson, Phanuef, McCabe, Komisarek, Gardiner never had threads as hostile like this. And those were all polarizing players.

It’s comical you continue to try and tell people to spot the trolls. While being… ahem, I’ll digress

It's because Mitch trolls the fans. He invites his own toxic responses when he trolls the media with godlike comments. He probably does it on purpose to laugh at the outrage.

Come on bro, you cannot seriously believe that. You are a very good poster. Stop buying into that nonsense. Mitch’s comments should literally have no effect on our lives! He sucks at the media and isn’t good at it. I don’t think he’s trolling the fans.

I can believe this.

At this point I've run out of other explanations. After all these years if he still doesn't get it, even after all the stories on tv and paper, then he's got to be the dumbest person on the face of the planet. He's either stupid or he's doing it on purpose.

It's one or the other there is no other choice.

I know right. I think I heard he is kinda trolly in gaming life too. Maybe I am mistaken but you have to think he has the PR people saying canned responses only man!

Of course they would be telling him what to say.

And he clearly isn't listening to them. So either he's spinning his wheels stuck on stupid. Or it's a troll job against the greatest fan base in the world.

Either way it reflects atrociously on him.

They brought it up on Kipper and Bourne a few days ago and Kipper dismissed that he’s trolling and said Mitch firmly believes what he says in the media. So it’s probably he’s just not the sharpest tool in the toolbox. They also said it feels like he doesn’t care about the backlash anymore and wants to say how he feels in the moment. So take that as you will.
