God no.. 8 is what he may have been worth 7 years ago
Well he has a lot going for him, other than being a point a game guy. Add in he is a top 10 faceoff guy, I read somewhere he is our best player at winning board battles. There are dozens of guys with worse credentials making 6.

To be honest I did hear something along those lines recently, and if Marner does leave it’s because of Paul. I try not to put too much stock into it because everyone talks, Paul talks to a lot of people so who knows what’s true and what’s made up BS at the end of the day. And if what I heard Paul is trying to convince Mitch to do happens, leafs fans will probably be pissed, because he ain’t leaving for more money, I’ll put it that way. I think a lot of fans on here think it’s about money, everything I’ve heard suggests it’s not about money. The money is here for Mitch if he wants it. I think it’s more about other things beyond money now. Which is why we may be seeing the wait and see approach from his camp.
Sounds like fun.

He already got paid on his last deal and JT is going to do nothing but decline from here on out.. 8 million on any kind of term is madness.

Interestingly, LeBrun "actual insider" was on TSN yesterday discussing the JT deal, and said not much is happening because both sides are waiting to see what will happen with the salary cap, will it go up more than previously thought. This is the exact same logic that probably permeates the Marner negotiations as well.

There is a lot of talk around about daddy and his direct involvement. Over the years it is rare to see fathers or mothers direct involvement. Haven't seen to much since Lindros and this has a similar feeling.
He an excellent player. He is valued. He wants to be loved. He makes lots of cash, more than any Muskoka boy will ever need to pay for gas for his jetski.
Why do many of us look at him with doubt.
My reasons.
His skills keep him to the open parts of the ice, and in the playoffs that moves him 10 feet farther from the net. I do not think he can be Clark, but he could be more determined like Gilmore
Last years bench whine showed a side we all knew was there. He looked like he wanted to run home. The world was against him and he couldn't stand up.
Some will say that was not true, but most people saw it that way, because is how he portrays himself in my eyes. He does nothing to change that view
His interviews are so generic, so practiced it is hard to feel passion for him.
It is almost impossible to think of the areans patrons chanting his name..why, because it never really appears to be fully giving it all, yes he plays 100% every game, but never, never the Dougie 100%.

You're generally a great poster but this sort of "I've heard" because I'm an insider type of post without details is bullshit and against the site rules. I suggest that you delete it or let us in on the details because then it's just your opinion.

Oh no I’m not an insider at all. I didn’t post it because I don’t believe it to be true at all and I think it’s complete BS and doubt it’s true, but I can share, I pm’d you. Like I said in my post everyone talks so I kind of just dismissed it. It’s hard to know what’s true out there.

`I think Jt’s deal gets more expensive as time goes by. I use to think 6 would be a fair deal, now it’s looking like 8 and if he plays better still it will only go up.

Mike Johnson was saying on overdrive he thinks it’s going to be between 4.5-6 if they do resign JT. And thinks it’s gonna be a 3 year deal. That seems reasonable. I think JT will ultimately take whatever he can to stay. Within a reasonable number, like he’s not gonna take crumbs but he’s not gonna ask for the moon either.

Well I think that would be a great deal even at 6. I’d even let Marner walk and pickup 2 more JT’s for that price. we’d be a much better team with 3 JT’s, minus Marner.

What does that have to do with being sensible about JT?
I’m just trying to make a comparison, Mitch averages less than 20 points a season more than JT. I don’t know how much you think Mitch is worth, but I think paying him 5 million more per season for the extra 20 points is absurd. So JT must be worth 6 at bare minimum and more likely closer to 8.
