Marner Cares a lot more then many fairweather fans on here. He is an extremely talented player who set up Mathews so many times this past playeoffs and he did not convert. He played very well for a player who’s coach mishandled his ice time to the extent that they rested him fo for a game at the end of the season. Love Marner and his effort.

no pk until the playoffs for Mitch.

How about Marner himself actually scores a goal in the playoffs??? Oh and Matthews had more points than Marner BTW if you wanna whine about anyone's lack of finish.

Ya that’s what I was kind of thinking……..for 11 million dollars a goal or 2 might be nice.
Lol

And he's not the only one to try and justify Marner's 0 goal performance on here, that's the worst part.

So that's our standard for expectations? We can't expect our $11M winger to score any goals in the playoffs because he's a playmaker?

You're clearly not understanding that it's everyone else's fault Mitch can't score. Stupid Keefe made him throw the puck over the glass several times every playoffs as well.

You are way too forgiving of a guy who claims he wasn't "engaged" at the beginning of playoff games. But you do you.

As for trying to be Kreskin, there is alot that can be discerned from a person's body positioning, what is said, and how it is said, during interviews. I suggest you look up body language experts and look at some of their work. They would have had a field day with Marner during these press conferences.
I've always said this forum really needs body language experts.

His best years should be now and 5 years a head, give or take a couple This year i expect 100+points in 82 and ppg in the playoffs. Every fourth point a goal. Crystal clear, but not easy.

New season definitely time to start supporting the boys and cut the noise.

That wasn't supposed to rhyme.

He shouldn’t be on the PK at all.

I sure hope so. If one of the highest paid players in the world cared less than some fans do ... I mean I don't even know what to say.

That's not what he said. He said he wasn't as engaged physically, in specifically the first game back after not playing for months, in a pandemic environment with no fans. This is a perfect example of how literally anything he (or his agent) says (and apparently even things like his "body positioning") is twisted into whatever people want it to be to fit their pre-existing perceptions.
That is still no excuse. He demanded to be paid as one of the three best players on the team, not to mention the entire league, which he got. To come out and say he wasn’t as engaged (whether physically or mentally) as he should have been, after having demanded and gotten that contract, is so wrong on so many levels.
He was in the same position as every other player in the league. Until we see him be willing to do whatever it takes to win in the playoffs, some of us will not change our opinion of him.

Don't need to pretend anything. My statement holds true. Marner's "engaged" statement that was being referenced was about him not being as engaged physically, in specifically the first game back after not playing for months, in an isolated pandemic environment with no fans.

The statement you're referencing really has nothing to do with anything. It's an incredibly generic statement about the team's performance in a portion of a game.

Mitch Marner: "We just didn't come ready to play at the start of the game. We really do have to start on time because it's getting said a lot, and it's not good enough."

You talk about people seeing/reading what they want to. I’d say that’s exactly what you’re doing.
Not coming ready to play means both physically and mentally. And being paid top money and part of the “core”, and in a playoff game, to me that’s just inexcusable.

At least Marner owned up to it. The entire team was bad that game but Marner was the only one who actually owned up to they not being ready so stop pretending Marner was the only player who wasn't ready to play. For that matter the entire play in series for all teams was pretty garbage hockey . The skill guys for the most part took the entire play in series to get their feel back while all the plugs and role players looked like super stars because their skills are pretty much just skate .

Not sure what playoffs you were watching. Many of the star players played well, that is, except a few, Marner and Matthews being two of them, mainly in games that counted the most. Two playoffs in a row that that has happened. Really hoping we’re not seeing a trend developing here.

Wow what a joke. How about understanding our piss poor coach playing him to the point of exhaustion in the regular season and the playoffs. He often killed a penalty and then 30 seconds later back on the ice for a shift.
Until you and others understand that an silly coach can hurt a players production by using so poorly you will never understand hockey. Cause and affect.

Then what does that say about Dubas? He hired/wanted Keefe to be the coach.

Buddy, the season was 56 games. If if it seriously got to the point where fatigue effected his game play, the strength and conditioning coaches should be fired.

Here are the TOI leaders among forwards the last 10 years.

NHL Stats

Ilya Kovalchuk averaged 23:49 TOI for the Devil's season where they went to the cup. More than Marner did over a 56 game season. Were Devils fans bitching and complaining that less TOI would have led to a fresher Kovalchuk to help them win the cup?

Your excuses seriously suck, find a new one.

The playin's were terrible hockey and a stupid way they did it. It was like watching hockey in pre-season or Oct 1st , not playoff hockey. Of the teams that didn't have to play into the playoffs Lightning , Bruins, Caps ,Stars , Blues all had losing records in their games . Pens lost to Habs for playin , Jets lost to the Flames in their series . It was terrible hockey and the stars took a bit to get their feel back .

So you’re saying the stars took awhile to get their feel back? This core has not shown they are capable of rising to the occasion not once, but two playoffs in a row. As for the past two play-ins, all teams who participated started at the same point.
