Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Again

I wish... Marner would probably ask the

Crosby legs are bigger than Marners entire body..guess all that drinking hasn't caught up to him?

Crosby is a freak of nature. No amount of physical training is getting Marner remotely close to the quads of Crosby. I don’t think there’s a player in the league that is really built like Crosby. Not even Nathan MacKinnon.

Lol who gives a f*** about Marner’s body composition honestly? It’s irrelevant. You don’t need to be built like Crosby. He just needs to change his mindset. There are players Marner’s size who go to the front of the net no problem. Marner needs to get his ass in front of the net that’s it.

Phil Kessel drank coke and no water and could score 30 to 40 in his sleep.

I remember when the Dubasites tried to tell me Sid wasnt a power forward. TBF to them, to the best of my knowledge there’s no fantasy points to collect for PF, and there’s no column on the spreedsheet, so they wouldn’t know how he does what he does.

I really wish this person was banned from this thread again, this is honestly pathetic posting.
Yup im wrong...yet management thought it was a big enough issue that they talked about him having a great offseason...like it was unusual and needed to be talked about?

Why do you care so much about Marner? You've been on this board since 2008, never really posted but came out of hibernation to post regularly in this thread. Just go back to hibernation... and forget about this board like you had before Marners contract was up.

Lol why do you dislike him so much hahaha? It goes both ways. Even on days where he has great games, I have never once since 2022 I think it is, seen you give him a compliment or give him praise when praise is due. Your mission has been to convince everyone he is not a good player!

No need for the pictures, we can all plainly see Marner is skinny and weak.
It’s hard to believe that he can’t gain muscle. I’ve watched freshman ball players with the same build look better than him the time they graduate. His bones must be extremely small and thin.

Kessel also was one of the fastest skaters in the league. Speed would help Marner significantly.

The point being though, is that every player is unique and body composition while it helps, is not a significant factor in whether you will be elite at hockey. Some of the most in shape NHLers are 4th line plugs.

What sets apart the best players is their mindset and a willingness to get hurt in pursuit of a goal or scoring chance if you will.

So if you want to say Marner lacks that, I would agree, he’s pretty perimeter. But his body composition hasn’t affected his play that much. I swear one of the years he did put on muscle and it didn’t really work out well or something like that.

This is exactly it. This place was crickets in November with the exemption being Antro bringing up some random 5on5 stats that were always a reach. After a win Antro is quiet in here, after a loss it's like a kid in a candy store in here for him. He's the complete opposite of a fan of this team.

Antro is quiet after wins?... this is entirely not true and everybody here knows that.

You just keep throwing *$$^ at the wall and hope it sticks.

Like your "lol no he isnt" response to my Kessel is fast post.

Someone called you out on your bull^$&& and you back tracked immediately.

I mean, I don't remember Kessel being that fast mainly because he was a one way player..I remember him being good on the fastbreak, like 2on1's but he didn't use his speed to get in on the dump in and turn the puck over, that's 100% for sure.

I'm perfectly fine with accepting something I said as a mistake..Something there's zero chance.you would ever do. Any time you've been proven wrong which has been time and time again you just vanish and don't acknowledge it.

That is not true at all. What a weird thing to claim.
Gms, coaches and reporters don't praise athletes for putting in the work in the offseason... if there known to put in the work in the offseason.

This isn't normal... "and hes taken THIS SUMMER very seriously:

“I’ve heard he’s looked dynamite with Crosby and MacKinnon at this Vail camp,” Friedman said. “I understand that at times, he’s been on a line with them, and he’s taken this summer very seriously.

Additionally...anyone whose ever played sports or trained takes one look at Marners tiny physique and knows he doesn't work out.

I think a lot of people on here as mistaking Marners general worth and how much Toronto should pay him to stay. There’s a lot of teams that will pay to get a winger of his calibre (he doe produce points in the regular season) and make him a high-profile signing, but for the Leafs, he’s worth less. They’ve tried having him in a core that’s gotten nowhere, and they already have a bunch of big contracts. He’s the odd man out. Or should be

This cores attitude is the issue. I don't think it's Matthews or Nylander either. I think the driving force of greed is Marner. Everything he and or his immediate family does around him seems to imply this. His wimpy spinorama bs passes and sitting at the blue line because he has no strength or is scared to leave the perimeter is embarrassing.

It's all calculated. Guys not likeable. At 13m GTFO. Get the you know what right on out of here. Can't even shoot the puck

Conor Garland has no fear. Plus the reason Crosby is that size is he started weight training 12-13 if not younger. Not many 14 years can step into a NHL prospect camp and be one of the best players on the ice.

I just need to be reminded who was the first of the core to sign for an astronomical number?

I don’t know how anyone with a straight face can say it’s starts with the Marner. If Matthews takes a reasonable number post ELC, we don’t see Marner’s number as high. It’s pretty simple. It doesn’t Matter if you’re a unicorn or not, it’s about treating players equally so no one feels treated unfairly. You look at every other dynasty, their star players got matching or similar deals. One wasn’t more important than the others. Go down the list, Toews/Kane, Doughty/Kopitar, Letang/Malkin/Crosby, Stamkos/Kucherov/Hedman.

From day one the organization had 3 elite talents and they put 1 on a pedistool and he got everything he wanted, from ELC schedule B bonuses, to an immediate 11 million post ELC, to max AAV on the shortest term. Other teams never did that, even if they valued one more than the other. They made sure each star was treated the same. That’s why we are in this situation. If you can’t see that, I’m not sure what to tell you. It’s on the organization at the end of the day.

I don't remember him being a fast player tbh, I suppose he was a quick player in straight line speed and in one direction.
No worries. Kessel was a very fast skater, especially straight line speed. Also had a really quick release.

The issue with Mitch is, he’s not fast, he’s not strong, he doesn’t have a hard/heavy shot. He can get away with the things he does in the regular season, but not in the playoffs.

I just don’t think he’s the guy to throw big money at. This is just my opinion and I’m sure I am in the minority. I would love for him to prove me wrong this postseason.

I think this is a reasonable take. At times he leaves you wanting more from him. Especially in the post season.
