I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. Stop equating sports to real life jobs. It’s not equivalent, it’s not even in the same stratosphere of comparison. So I don’t really give two shits what people in everyday life are doing and I doubt any athlete does.
Why is it delusional? Because they aren’t working normal jobs for one. They are professional athletes. They are looking to maximize earnings, most athletes view themselves as brands.
2. Just because Marner is from Toronto, and grey up dreaming of playing for the leafs does not mean he should or would take a discount and that’s what many fans were banking on. His love for the leafs would supersede his desire to make money. In reality very few athletes have that mentality. So expecting him to have that was were we went wrong.
3. I don’t think any player is that attached to a team that bad. I know we want to believe that these guys would kill to be here but Most of these guys would leave in a heart beat if the situation was right and the money was comparable. I think in a candid moment if you were to ask Marner if he’d take less or the same to leaf Toronto but play beside Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado, McDavid in Edmonton, or go bolster Vegas, he’d say hell yes even though he loves being a leaf.
