Marner is just so good on the pk. Knocked a saucer pass out of the air like it was nothing.

Marner plays the 8th most minutes / game out of all forwards and basically all the ones ahead of him had multiple over times to boost their toi.

Obviously keefe trusts marner and uses him more than any other forward on the team.

So I was just listening to this week's episode of Spittin chiclets before my shift starts and they have Doug Gilmour on as a guest. They asked him about if the current Leafs players ever call him up for advice and he said "actually, both Mitch and his Dad Paul called me up after the incident with Babcock. They wanted out of there". Doug said he kinda calmed them down a bit about the situation but he said they were not happy.

Holy shit. f*** Babcock.

Whoa, I’m sure that helped a lot in contract negotiations too.

Leafs are playing a team without a star player and we're dominated (so I read) in the third. I quit watching in the second.
thoughts on Mitch Marner today (I only caught the first)? I heard the broadcast team comment that he does not have a goal in his last 15 postseason games...
It's interesting that you have such strong opinions on Marner (and the Leafs in general) in the playoffs, when you're not even watching the full games. Funny enough, the first thing talked about during the first intermission was how Marner was flying out there and playing well. He had a great game. Seems quite odd to be judging a playmaker on exclusively goal totals.

I'm very interested in others opinion on Marner... I'm not gonna feel shame because I'm following his play closely. Some posters in particular I value their input.

So you have no valuable input in a marner thread? Not.... he was amazing! Many chances, he is playing like Jonathon Toews out there. I'd rather him play like this with his 200 foot game then like Kessel!

If you think he is playing fantastic why not explain that rather than wonder why someone posting on a hockey board has such a fascination with a player?

Your the kettle calling the coffee black though.... all year you have attacked anyone who has anything with even a hint of negativity about Marner. Talk about an unhealthy obsession.

We need Marner to settle the hell down.
He's been overthinking things far too much in the playoffs.

Shooting in bad places with little hope of getting the puck through, passing off good opportunities to score, and trying to be a trigger man on the power play.

At his best, Marner just allows the game to develop naturally, and uses his immense skill to create chances.

He's not doing any of those things against the Habs.

It's about the same play he brought against Columbus last year. Not good enough IMO but there's always die hard homers who will try tell you it's not only good enough, but it's great. I do like what Marner's bringing outside of offense though, he is making himself useful despite the lack of offense.

How's Matthews doing in the post season? I don't see him taking any heat for his post season play. How come?
Offensively - same as Marner. Not as good as they should be doing.

The Habs are clearly focused on shutting these guys down. But we have the depth and the defense to dominate the games either way.

More accurately, searching for any instance of what you want to see, and focusing only on that. Unfortunately, you're not following his play closely. You're ignoring his statistics, unless it's something like judging playmakers by exclusively goals. You're not watching the games, by your own admission. I'm not sure how that's "following closely". It's not really a surprise why your takes on Marner have been so wrong. It's very telling that what actually happened was a good game by Marner, and the broadcasters gushing over his play, and your response was to discuss the most negative off-hand comment that was made about him.
So you have no valuable input in a marner thread?
I've given plenty of valuable input on Marner, in this and many other threads. And even better, my input has been supported by the facts.
all year you have attacked anyone who has anything with even a hint of negativity about Marner.
Using facts and evidence to show why somebody's opinion is incorrect =/= "attacking" people. You've been very vocal about Marner, with no substantiation, and you've been going around tagging people. Expect people to respond.

Marner plays more than anyone else and we are up 3-1, so i wont complain. He is a big part of that. As for scoring goals. When presented with good chances it seems as he is over thinking/ cant really decide what to do. Probably lack of confidece. Once he nets one he will get going in my opinion.

Broadcasters gushing over his play? It was the broadcast team that pointed out Marner hasn't got a goal in his past 15 post season games. They...just like this board are pointing out the good and the bad. You and your weird obsession with Marner (and seemingly mostly just Marner) are the one don't like when facts are stated.

And No substantiating? What more substantiating do I need to do.... he hasn't scored a dang post-season goal in the past 15 games.

Judging playmakers on goals? It was the a hockey insider that pointed out he has 1 primarily assist in something like his past 8 post season points.

Again - what more substantiating do you need more than facts?

My thoughts are - I'm okay with a lack of offensive production so long as at the end of a series he is outscoring the other teams top line when head to head against them. Not sure if his lack of production is a result of dedication to defense, bad luck, or just bad offensive choices.....

What is your opinion on his lack of production? Gonna avoid the question as usual?

In the pile of positive comments, you picked out the isolated negative comment, in discussing a game you didn't even bother to watch most of, where Marner played quite well. It's actually very similar to the ways in which you discuss Marner in general. In a pile of positive facts and attributes, you pick out and exaggerate the isolated negatives that all players will have in some form.

You're certainly not out here pointing out the good for Marner.

I don't have an obsession with Marner. I just dislike when people come to the Leaf board to make false claims about our best players. I love when the facts are stated - that's usually why I'm the one stating them. I don't like when things are cherry-picked to drag players through the mud.
he has 1 primarily assist in something like his past 8 post season points
As usual, that's not even true. He has two primary assists in this series alone.
What is your opinion on his lack of production?
He's tied for 2nd on the team in non-EN points, we're up 3-1 in the series, and Marner has been a big part of that, contributing in many ways in all situations.

Two primary assists this series? Looks like the one with false claims and lack facts...

If Marner is being too cute or not engaging, I will be the first to jump on him. However, Marner has been good. Not great but I don't think the Habs scored or created any good scoring chances when he is on the ice beside that SH goal in Game 1. He overthink a few scoring chances but last night he is back to his old self. He is buzzing and engaging, I am expecting him to break out with AM and Hyman in Game 5.

Over the last 2 playoffs on the PK ranked out of the 82 forwards with at least 20+ PK minutes:

Marner:

xGA/60: 3.35 (3rd lowest out of 82)

Goals Against/60: 0
And everyone says special teams win cups, so fluffing off his PK performance is comical while slagging the PP.

I don't get the negativity about Marner from some posters. I get some people are going to use his contract against him but he is our best defensive forward and has been playing a great 200 ft game. The offence will eventually come but in the meantime, he is playing the right way. If the team is winning in the playoffs I don't care how much our players make.

Whoa. Awesome.

During the regular season ranked out of the 68 forwards with at least 90+ PK minutes for xGA/60 on the PK (first line PK defenders):

1. Killorn
2. Fischer
3. Aho
4. Marner
5. Bergeron

Top 3 premier setup man in the NHL, top 5 in the NHL for points and now well-established top 5 PKing forward.

I'm not sure what planet you would have to live on to criticize the guy.
