You'll note it's the same crowd who were complaining about the guy when it was all primary assists and NO PP points this season. I mean. It's just a moving target to find somewhere to stick it to him.

You guys know the drill here, Nylander is scoring so therefore Marner is crap. Happens every time Willie gets hot.

Goals = Player's worth for a whole lot of posters.

I’m seeing some massive negative overreactions but lack off acknowledgment/reactions as well. It doesn’t have to be either or. Has Mitch been as good as he should be knowing what he’s capable of and has been in the regular season - No. That said, has he still been doing a lot of little things to help the team win - nice setup on Morgan’s game winner, beast on the penalty kill etc- Yes. So I definitely agree he needs to be better but ya’ll crazy if you think he’s been complete garbage. Of course he’s one of our superstars and at the moment he’s not delivering on that, so that grows the fan base frustration which is understandable.

The first line is getting a ton of looks, Matthews leads the league in ixG/60 at 5v5 so far these playoffs. Carey Price is bailing the Habs out, and they’re still losing.

So do the people constantly bagging on Thornton want him to fail? Or double standard?

The guy got himself paid like Matthews. He put it on himself.

Signed for less money and for an extra year.

We should have higher expectations for matthews.

Marner hasn't had a goal in the last 14 or 15 playoff games (since he potted 2 against Boston early in that series a few years ago).

Feels like if he's able to find the back of the net once or twice in a game, that he'll get more confidence going and start to take it up a notch.

I think Marner's playing well, but he doesn't really have the killer eye that we know he has. He's looking dangerous at times, and that feed to Rielly was so nice, but he's also whiffing on his own chances. In each of the last two games he's dangled their defenders out of their jockstraps right in the slot but hasn't even been able to get a shot away as a result. Very impressive plays, but when he's on his A game he finds a way to put those in the net.

Hard to complain too bitterly about a player who's got 3 points in 3 games, but I think we all want to see a little more from our superstar. I think he's a little too much of a Leafs fan and feeling the 17 years of playoffs angst and therefore not loose enough. Once he settles in and starts having fun again, he'll pop the hell off and carry us for a round.

Imagine trying to get the most money when negotiating an employment contract. :help:
I mostly blame Dubas for sure, but Matthews didn't do what Nylander and Marner did. Marner wasn't even happy with the Nylander overpay. His contract is historically laughable. And I've seen that happen outside the sports world. I have a friend who got a director of engineering position that I knew he wasn't qualified for. He lasted less than 6 months.

Would love to see two dominating games from Magic right now. It would likely seal the deal if he realizes it. Kind of thinking he’s built enough experience at this point of his career that he might be really on top of it these next couple games and get rolling. If he does, Montreal is in trouble. Fingers crossed that he does :)

In a season with Connor McDavid putting up the most productive season in 20+ years (with Draisaitl riding shotgun) Marner finished 4th in league scoring. Unlike your friend, I think it's safe to say he's qualified.

Nah, I get you were trying to "get him" after his previous tags, just doesn't really work with the points people have made about his play

I wasn't trying to "get him"
He is calling out people while posting something negative about Marner. Do I tag him everytime something positive is posted?

Is this better?

Since start of 2018-19:

Points - 8th
Assists - 4th
Primary Assists - 2nd
ES Points - 6th
Takeaways - 3rd
