Richards.

Hartnell is kind of an outlier on that front. He aged pretty well overall, especially for a guy who never learned to skate.
Tbf, Richards had the disadvantage that he was way too small for the style of hockey he played. Was always going to cost him.

Not in the US.
The probable players involved aren't even household names in Canada, so it's as perfect a day to drop the news as they could get.

Long weekend in Canada, most hockey fans are already off to their cottages, gives teams time to react before training camp...

There would be a lot of salary being moved around no?
According to Capfriendly, it’s $11.4M for four years.
Moves like this are the ones that clubs make when they are trying to chase the last hurrah with aging stars. They rarely succeed. It’s a sign of desperation. When these types of moves fail they leave the club in terrible condition for the future. Assets are gone in the trade and the roster is cap strapped.

Sounds familiar? At least CF didn't strip us of all future assets and leave us in cap hell, just purgatory.

I was thinking some bad contracts would be flipped in this EK trade

Greer is cleaning up the MESS left behind by the previous GM . Letting Pav go so you can sign Kane , signing Karlsson for that type of term and salary despite him not playing very well leading into that contract . Last year was his first good year in quite a while so using it to get rid of his contract is a tuff but good move .

The Penguins are in win now so it fits and did not cost them a bunch but I do not think it will help a bunch , they are to old .
