Oh he's still using them. It can definitely still be a win for OTT, but he's leaving next summer to cash in elsewhere
Nothing wrong with that, imo. If he's playing for his next contract then I'm sure he'll try extra hard to have a great season which should only benefit the Senators.

He could only get 1 year at $5m after scoring 50 points in 69 games, so I'm not sure how much cashing in he'll be doing at age 32.

Just checking the Sens cap situation and noticed they have a MDZ buyout on the books for 23-24.

Especially with his injury history. Honestly, why would any team offer him anything but 1 year?

I can see a team offering a few years (probably no more than 3) though. He's still a productive player.

Giroux got 3 years at 34(?).

How is that not good for the Senators? There's really no risk for OTT.

Giroux’s an iron man.

G is a damn good player but I wouldn't be surprised if he (Tarasenko) gets offered longer term than 1 year after this. Now anything after 3 years is probably really unwise but 3 years isn't that long on a contract even if it turns bad after year 1. Probably the biggest issue right now is the flat cap that's been there for the past few years.

Seems like Carolina wants everyone these days.
On one year deals. They have a lot of prospects but mostly 2nd and 3rd rd picks who need more time to marinate.
So one year patches allow them to stash them in the AHL and be NHL ready when they're called up.

Wow, imagine a competent GM signing players to 1 year deals rather than giving 4 year deals to shitty ass players

They probably wanted Ghost, just not at $4M. Probably valued him more than TDA ($1.8-$2.5M), but not that much more.

Yeah, he’s not wearing down like other top guys of his age usually do.

Probably because he’s never been someone who relied on speed to be elite. Still super smart, still super skilled, still an overly-competitive lunatic.
And apparently still the reason why we sucked when he was here
