If Couturier comes back & plays well the Flyers probably don’t trade him anyway unless he forces the issue. We’ll get the whole culture spiel.
Or maybe because top players can play well into their mid-30s.If Couturier comes back & plays well the Flyers probably don’t trade him anyway unless he forces the issue. We’ll get the whole culture spiel.
Probably yes, but GMs don't always follow logic, especially when they are desperate. At the very least the Bruins could request a medical assessment and review of Couturier's files. I hear they have pretty good medical facilities in Boston.Highly doubt it. No one is taking on that contract until he can prove he can still play. A few games last season wouldn't have been enough
Also, the Bruins don't really have a lot in terms of available assets, unless they're looking to break the team apart (and there's no reason to believe they are.) The price on a Couturier who could be damaged goods is going to be a hell of a lot lower than the price on a Couturier who's been on the ice for half a year, and looks like his old self. If they make an offer now, taking on that risk (and that contract), they could be adding a much better player than they can otherwise afford to pony up for.Probably yes, but GMs don't always follow logic, especially when they are desperate. The timing is way too convenient. "We can buy you out or you can go on LTIRement"Robidas Island continues on.
Or he heals around playoff timeThe timing is way too convenient. "We can buy you out or you can go on LTIRement"
Pittsburgh Matt Murray could potentially move the needle then, but unless that's what they're getting back, I'm not sure they'd be adding more than a 3G.Or he heals around playoff time
Yeah I think he's gotta stay healthy for at least a year for a team to be interested in any way that would garner anything of value. With his injuries and contract I think he's here (for better or worse) until that contract is is done or close to done barring some kind of quick and obvious comeback without any dip in play, and by that point he probably won't have much interest because he'll be on the wrong side of 35.Highly doubt it. No one is taking on that contract until he can prove he can still play. A few games last season wouldn't have been enough
Or this latest head injury was the one that ended his career and he never plays again a la Steve Mason.Or he heals around playoff time
This should've been obvious outside of the buyout window.Or this latest head injury was the one that ended his career and he never plays again a la Steve Mason.
Best to trade him at diminished value so fans can complain if he comes back 100%. They then will complain about DB not wanting to get a maximum return on assets because they didn't need to make a trade.Or maybe because top players can play well into their mid-30s.
Couts was at a similar level to Bergeron before his back injury - how did Bergeron age?
Kopitar at 34 and 35 had 67 and 74 points and finished 6th and 5th in Selke voting.
If Couts is close to 100%, given his contract, he's a "keeper."
With the cap rising next summer, $7.75M from 31-37 could end up a bargain.
I'm never a fan of a player using a team for one season to cash in with another the following summer.Tarasenko signs a one year, 5mil, deal with the Sens. Have fun G
It's not using a team if they are ok with it. This gives them a DeBrincat replacement and lets the kids develop another year.I'm never a fan of a player using a team for one season to cash in with another the following summer.
Oh he's still using them. It can definitely still be a win for OTT, but he's leaving next summer to cash in elsewhereIt's not using a team if they are ok with it. This gives them a DeBrincat replacement and lets the kids develop another year.
