I was recently hanging out with someone who grew up with MDZ. Apparently everyone who grew up with him knows him as Mitchell.

New rules being workshopped in the Champions Hockey League this year:

1) Minor penalties will be served in their entirety, even if opposing team scores (with the following caveat).

2) A shorthanded goal negates the remainder of that team's minor penalty.

3) A minor penalty will still be assessed if the opposing team scores during the delayed penalty time period.

I like all three and have wanted the NHL to implement #1 for as long as I could understand the rules.

What do you think?

1 and 3 are no-brainers. 2 is one of those ideas I like on paper that I absolutely do not trust NHL coaches to respond to well. 4 or 5 orgs will and they’ll rightly get an advantage. 25 will tell their point players not to pinch in most cases. 2-3 will also move a Forward up higher.

I’m still fine implementing it because responding to your environment smartly should give you an edge. But *cough* certain teams will turn this into an active disadvantage.
