Wouldn't surprise me if he scores 25+ there assuming he's used properly, unlike here
Bruins will be interesting to watch this year. There's no way they should be a playoff team with Zacha and Coyle as their top two centers. But I've written them off before.

JVR was the ultimate obedient team guy last year. He was told to grind the boards and keep pucks deep, good Tortorella hockey, and he did it. It was a lesson in squandering a player's skillset. Gone was his playmaking and work around the net. Pure safe hockey, treating offense like defense in the opponent's end.

I think it also had as much to do with squandering skill-sets of support pieces in roster building. And then blaming the player. JVR is what he is: a cycle accelerant. Get him in the zone, he can feast. Put him on a functional PP as the net front, he can score. Put him on a team with the worst PP in the league (which renders a net player useless), put him with mediocre passers, then criticize him after accentuating his flaws? What's the use? That even predated Tortorella.

Tortorella also had a comment the other week about liking the feel of the locker room changing, with guys like Hayes and Provorov and DeAngelo and JVR gone. As if JVR was ever anything but a model professional. He has no business being grouped with those malcontents.

Meh. JVR has 16:33 at 5x5 in two games.
He's morphing into Maroon, big slow veteran with a scorer's touch who is otherwise sheltered.
A bargain at $1M, grossly overpaid at $7M.

Torts probably blamed JVR for the Flyers PP being last in the league.
