You can keep Ghost, I'll take Jakob Chychrun (if he could stay healthy).

Looking at Fiala on pace for 85 points/game again made me think about the trade value of #19 + “nice” recent 2nd round D prospect. While Fiala needed a new RFA contract, which gets baked in, the Kings paid a price for a top line scorer, but they paid a fair price for a known commodity. No guess work, no hopium, a top of the lineup piece in his prime. I’m not mentioning that price and trade for any particular reason *tongue in cheek*.

Hughes shot 2.38% at 5v5 and 5.36% overall when it was popular to call him a bust. The Devils shot 5.12% at 5v5 and 7.65% overall with him on the ice. His impact on Shooting talent was worse than Nic Deslauriers or Ryan Reaves or VdV or any other plug you want to name. While this was going on, he was functionally equivalent to prime Matt Barzal in transition microstats at 18 years old.

This was a layup and at least 98% of the people who called him a bust will make this exact mistake again the next time.

Did you mention Barzal while talking about Hughes just to edge me?

As the leader of the Barzal/Hughes Fan Club, you forgot to mention they're both cute af too

It's not Gostisbehere vs Chychrun. It's Gostisbehere + 2 + (rumored asking of 1 + 1 + stuff) vs Chychrun, which is rather the point. One costs a ton of assets. One a dipshit paid to give away.

Yes, but I thought a tag might come off as desperate.

Similar to Tage Thompson's micro stats in 20-21. Although, his microstats where more about his ability to produce high quality shots, from the HD areas (If you have a sub to EH, go look at Tage's shots in 20-21 - all centered from right around the net). He also shot at 3.49% at 5v5 that year, and an onIce sh% of 5.75%. But the point is, there was meat on the bone, potential that needed to be extracted.

You're right about him and his 20-21 stats which is why the 21-22 breakout isnt all that surprising (ya boy looked like a genius for it in fantasy). What is crazy though is I was off him this year because I figured he was slightly overvalued, but he just went out and started scoring more. It isn't sh% based either, he's mostly getting more chances

Ghost rebounded when Chychrun returned.
Chychrun and Valimaki (former 1st rd pick obtained on waivers) have been >> the other Zona D-men, including Ghost.

Dumping Ghost was all about AV, AV was all about "winning now." Risto was about "winning the Flyer way."
Path dependence.
It isn't that Fletcher is bad, it's that he did exactly what the organization wanted him to do.
The cancer is deep into the bones.

This is amusing, since L Schenn is the ultimate "dinosaur" D-man.

This is a guy who from 2016-2020 could be considered worse than Risto.
So it does make sense to see if you can "fix" Risto and make it easier to dump him.
