The Kings are the 6th best team in the league with a negative goal differential. How is that even possible?

Hughes is on pace for 45 goals. He’s actually had 46 goals in his last 85 games. He’s been a top 10-ish goal scorer in that span. Who saw that coming?

He came into the league with his shot being considered a weakness, and his first couple seasons his goal scoring was indeed a major weakness. He massively underperformed expected numbers, and it was not just bad luck.

It’s like McDavid in the sense that supreme skill and skating usually figures out the goal scoring eventually. It’s a fun contrast to Bedard.

If you feel inclined, and have time, I'd love more of your thoughts on this. I don't follow prospects at all. I have no idea what type of prospect Bedard is. I come here for that info, from you and other fine folks here. The last statement is what peaked my interest. What is the contrast?

I think i'd like to see 70 goals even more. I don't think anyone has hit 70 since 1993.
That'd be correct. Selanne and Mogliny both scored 76 in 92-93, and nobody has gotten there since, although Mario did hit 69 (nice) goals twice.

How bad is Pacific division for him to actually get to that number? Probably bad enough and Oilers are yet to play flyers so he will get to face some DeAngelo/Ristolainen level of opposition.
He's pacing just over a 2.0 ppg against every division except for the Metro, actually.

Yeah but no PP points against metro as well. There's definitely room for improvement or just simple positive regression to be expected.

At this point it's hoping he stays healthy and dog days of the season in January/February won't drag his production down too much.

Your dad rules.

We've argued for hours whether or not Ovi would eventually be tossed out of NHL if RU-UA war continues the way it's going.

Edit: personally I don't see it happening, but wouldn't mind if he was cut short of Gretzky's [who's part-Ukrainian] record purely for being Putin's b**** during biggest European conflict since WWII.

The contrast is Bedard might step into the NHL and flirt with 40 goals. Only 2 players in the last 30 years have scored 40 as rookies, and Ovechkin and Matthews were 20 and 19 y.o. respectfully, not 18. Push it to 35 goals, and you can add Laine and Crosby. He should hit the ground running -- I don't expect him to have the same issues as someone like Jack Hughes, who was just not NHL ready physically. Bedard is special, and he'll probably be alternating Rockets with Matthews.

I'd love nothing more. I hate his guts.
