Forgotten, under the radar great move: Fletcher acquiring Erik Gustafsson (another player in a long line of players equivalent to Ghost) WHILE Ghost was still here to sap his usage and not be poor defensively. Then waiving Ghost so Gustafsson could net a 7th round pick. Value in the margins.

Just as an addendum, if they never put him on waivers pointlessly (to scratch Lindblom and Patrick, and over Prosser and Gustafsson, mind you — galaxy brain stuff), I believe they never would’ve needed a high 2nd to move him. We don't have to talk about the merits and purpose of moving him.

The Flyers are painfully bad at not telegraphing their moves, especially disdain for certain players, but it allowed every other GM to see every other GM pass on him mid-season, when adding $4.5MM, with no $$ out, is not always doable. It showed the Flyers’ hand that they wanted to dump him and internally placed zero value on him. In turn, other GMs smell a desperate sucker. As we all know, he had a fine season, even with the Flyers giving Gustafsson some of his usage. This is How to Tank Value 101 stuff. There’s no chance the Hurricanes, in the same situation, don’t turn a value trick.

I think you can keep going here. The Flyers needed to give up a 1st round pick to move JVR, while the Hurricanes were happy to take Pacioretty for nothing from a more desperate team.

For Fletcher being one of the 200 Hockey Men, it sure doesn’t get him anywhere.

Is this the Ghost thread or the miscellaneous NHL thread?

Every team in the league said thanks but no thanks.
Every team in the league is dumb then? Or they were smart knowing chuck was itching to get rid of his AAV they knew they could bend him over in a trade.
Everyone is so focused on genuflecting to Ghost that they neglected to show what another former Flyers defenseman, with even higher offensive upside, is up to…..

Lol would be awesome if Hagg actually is a good defenseman, but played like shit here because of Flyers development. Where were these plays while he was here?
