Hextall is flipping shit.

Inflammation, he watched and thought, it must be inflammation.

Should have no trouble losing the next game too. The thing that sucks is the injury excuse probably buys more time for the bozos.
It's just funny because good teams are deep enough to overcome (to some magnitude) injuries

If anything the injuries on this team are yet another way the front office is being exposed as incompetent

And I feel like this is where a well run organization doesn’t miss a beat too. It’s where drafting/development, systems/coaching can shine or shoot you in the foot. You may not be able to ice all your number one guys, but competent replacements are able to step in and keep competitive. So yes, 100%

We know where our guys stand.

The season was over when Couturier went down.

If one injury debilitates a team's ability to win then it's a very badly built team

Well, I don't think any organization can withstand losing 5 of 6 of their top scoring forwards.
I mean this is brutal.

Despite that, last 8 games:
CF 51.56%, xGF 51.63%, HDCF 53.33%, PDO 0.995

They've managed to stay competitive at ES, the STs suck, but that shouldn't be a surprise, they've lost their best PP forwards and their best PK guys.

The importance of maintaining competitive play at 5x5 is it gives prospects a chance to make plays rather than being buried in their D-zone for most of a game. Still got to make those plays, but it's better than spending most of your shifts blocking shots.

You must be missing a lot of context with these stats, because otherwise a team performing like that with the goaltending Hart provides shouldn't be having such thoroughly bad results.

Remember in the summer when we discussed the huge discrepancy in Tortorella teams between these stat lines and actual production? And how that kind of thing happening repeatedly must indicate a pattern, that something is going on? Yeah.

Uh, didn't I point out the problem this year would be finishing plays?
That's what happens when you have to field a combination of inexperienced players and AHL plus types.

GF/GA at 5x5 over those 8 games is 16/15.
Sh% 7.31, which is below league average.

Problem has been STs
PP GF/60: 4.47, xGF/60: 4.96
PK GA/60: 12.96, xGA/60: 11.98

Nothing will be fixed this season, it's all about identifying core players and making some moves this summer to realign the roster.

"Finishing Plays" has been a problem for Tortorella teams for nearly 2 decades now

I don't remember there being so many Blacky Friday afternoon games before.

There are six games that start before the Flyers play the Pens at 5:30pm.

Karlsson already has 3 assists tonight. I believe he's 5th in the NHL in primary points, 2nd in points, 7th in goals, while being +6% in relxGF% and having 13 more points than anyone on the Sharks. That is just mind boggling.

I miss this Erik Karlsson -- pretty please sustain this to some degree. For as much as I think Makar will have the more consistent career for several reasons, Karlsson's peaks are something else. Never seen a guy do less with more over his career.
