It’s the vampire’s kiss. When you win it, you know that you’re going to get canned in a year or so.
Probably self-selection bias.
Winners tend to turn around bad teams, and often get that team to overachieve.
Next season league has film, adjusts and the team regresses to its "norm."
If it falls below that norm (fluctuations around the mean) the HC gets fired.

Is there a more fraudulent award than the Jack Adams?

GM of the Year Award is up there especially in hockey when you have a hard cap which limits yearly roster turnover & even smaller market teams if they’re not rebuilding can/will spend close to the cap ceiling now too.

It basically often follows under a similar guideline as the Adams in essentially what team did better than expected coming into the year as your winner.

I don’t think there is any history of any team firing their coach right after another coach firing to hire that guy.
Well there should be

Vegas did it. Bruce Cassidy was fired by the Bruins in June 2022. Eight days later, Vegas fired Pete DeBoer and hired Cassidy.

That was in the offseason, though.

*****

Vegas actually did it when they hired DeBoer, as well.

DeBoer was fired by the Sharks in December 2019 and Vegas hired him in January 2020 after firing Gerard Gallant...

The Blues kind of pulled this off in 1994. Mike Keenan wasn't fired, but he loopholed himself out of the Rangers job, and the Blues demoted their head coach, Bob Berry, to an assistant position to hire Keenan as HC and GM.
