The problem with gratuitous violence in hockey is the fault of DoPS and their ridiculous leniency when handing out suspensions. If they really want cheap shots and dangerous, intent to injure hits out of the game, all they need to do is to start handing out 20, 40 and whole season suspensions. Problem solved.

But...but...there aren't any trees in the logo, only an avalanche of snow?

So, 1992? I'm sure the Flyers FO will catch up before we hit the 50 year mark, right? RIGHT?
They are still trying to come to grips with the salary cap, 2 line passing and role that skill & speed plays in today’s game. Hopefully they will have all of this down by the start of the 22nd century.

JVR told 32TTP that he had a concussion, as well as a foot injury, in his 3rd year in Philly. Homer traded him after that season for LSchenn.

Looks like it was reported at the time, but I only remembered the foot thing

I listened to that but hadn’t put it together.

One of the reasons he was moved was because they didn’t think he was a playoff type player. He wasn’t tough enough.

But then you get Zac Rinaldo being suspended infinite games because people be playing like Paul Kariya with their head down. Boy could Rinaldo (even with Calgary) collect penalties and suspensions on clean hits because he just rocked people. Guy was a shark.

Any hit to the head is illegal in today’s game. If a player gets hit in the shoulder, and falls awkwardly because he had his head down, that’s on him. But any hit to the head is illegal and any deliberate hit to the head should warrant a long term suspension. The 90s were a different era and thankfully the rules have been changed.

For those who don’t know I think this is a separate bid for a stadium at what is a large plot that has a mall with many unused store fronts. The other site for the gathering is I think a different option that’s been talked about until now.
would rather the NHL goes somewhere new than a place that failed twice

Once Bettman has an idea in his head he never lets go, CIP Arizona Coyotes. Atlanta/Georgia seems to be a super strong SEC area. College sports there rule. Check the Hawks attendance-26th in the NBA. I don't see the NHL ever being strong on that spot.
Maybe Bettman thinks that he could build a rivalry between Atlanta and Nashville to give the franchise a base for attendance but my opinion is that it won't work. Northern job transfers, snowbirds and retirees hold up Tampa Bay and Florida. Without them those franchises would be wrecks. The NHL has to face it; hockey in the South is an extremely difficult sell.

Yup, Jacksonville’s ECHL team has to run gimmick after gimmick and all kinds of cheap ticket deals to basically fill half to 2/3 of a 3000 seat arena.

And lets not forget, when the Panthers aren’t a contender, they struggle to draw more 10-11 thousand per game.

Atlanta shouldn’t even be in the running for a team.

The situation could always repeat, but it’s well know it was not the location but ownership issues.

I recently moved to the Atlanta area and have found more people to talk hockey with than when I lived in the suburbs of Philly. The hawks play in a different part of the city that is very hard to access on a Tuesday night. The Braves is what you should compare it to. That location is much more accessible. They have a new model with surrounding apartments and restaurants called The Battery. It is wildly successful and will be copied for a future site here. Philly is copying too.

The Augusta ECHL team here does very well for attendance as a correlate.

I am pretty certain it will be incredibly successful here. I’ll be getting season tickets off the bat for sure. Philly has/had a lot of die hard Flyer fans, but with a lost generation I don’t know. The Eagles are the big draw in Philly. I don’t think it’s as hard as it seems to build a good franchise with success, good ownership, and the right location.
