The current discourse on the empty net in OT rule is very funny because I’ve been aware of it for at least a decade because when the Flyers kept losing shootouts, someone would always ask - why not pull the goalie? I think most of us here probably knew the rule for that reason.

I could see both being successful. The new North Point mall bid was a place I thought would make a good spot to drop a place like the battery in. Good spot and a lot of room.

The Gathering original bid is an empty plot.

Unless someone teaches Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury to skate to a decent level and ices them on the 4th line there is no-one who is going to be a true "deterrent" and even then you would still have big nasty hits as it is just instinct in some situations, game happens so fast and no-one is thinking "oh no, big bad boy is on the ice" when they make the play itself.

Because guys who are quite frankly ~amateur boxing level tough are very unlikely to kill/seriously alter the course of your life barring some bad luck. A few stitches does not deter anyone even if they have time to think.

Donald Brashear was a pretty terrifying fighter who could really, really hurt people, inside and outside of the rink with his boxing and MMA record showing that too! But as we know even pre-lockout he was not a true deterrent for oppositions taking pot-shots at players.

Goons haven’t been a deterrent since the instigator rule was added.
