Bettman is going to give Kucherov a one game suspension for not showing up.That was the best Skills Comp in forever, Kucherov notwithstanding lol
Tanner Jeannot was traded for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th last year. NHL GMs can't help themselves.
The only stupider GMs are the ones who can't bear to part with the Dowds and Jeannots for these offers. We know who.
The member of the media who exclaimed that Quebec fans want an NHL team seemed to be relaying if not echoing the sentiment. Bettman mentioned about a half dozen US cities though nothing substantial in terms of ownership groups. I interpreted his follow up as to no serious groups from Quebec had a proposal. Cincinnati as one of two WHA cities (also Birmingham) left outside of the 1979 merger. But Omaha is an interesting option if looking for an untapped major sports market, a good college program for starters.
In an oddly twisted configuration, that is be reminiscent of the Devils relocating to Nashville, the height of that during the 1995 playoffs. Nashville offered million upon millions to any franchise. The Devils terminated their lease in New Jersey after winning the Cup, used it to their advantage.I've been wondering if a Utah expansion ends up seeing the Yotes moved.
The volley by the media member was more demonstrative than inquisitive. But neither side offered much in substance about a Quebec bid and that was a telltale sign at least in that presser. In an uncreative league obsessed with nepo-hires and retreads, the whole Quebec City obsession has always cracked me up.

If you mean the initial incarnation of a Quebec City team and what went wrong, the Nuggets ownership wanted to bring a team to Denver and what was a new building in-waiting. McNichols wasn't old in any sense of the word but it was outdated for pro standards. I generally liked McNichols because it had an older vibe to it but there were limits to how much renovations could hide the blemishes. The Nordiques had rumored to be relocated back in the 1980s and fans threatened to boycott Carling (ownership). It is a hazy memory but I think Seattle was the lead prospect at the time. That is when Marcel Aubut stepped in to save the team from relocating. However, years later, he was the lead voice behind the sale when local government officials refused public funding for a new arena. The thing I can't untangle is whenever I try to figure out what went wrong in Quebec, it never seems like the team was hurting for money (though I'm pretty sure I've seen vigorous arguments both ways on that). I see very mixed reviews on the owner and the desire of anyone to deal with him. But it's struck me as odd that a profitable location has been ignored for this long. Maybe there are French language sources that clarify it all and I'd rather peel my face than sort through all that.
I assume some bean counters have determined the potential gain from expanding TV markets in the US is worth more than the gate revenue and coverage of a Quebec team. But we are also surely at a point where there isn't much more TV money to be gained at this point. What markets are neglected? A Utah team potentially replaces Arizona down there. Making the Coyotes financially stable by putting them in Quebec would mean they require less revenue sharing and should boost the league overall. It's a moneypit, and Salt Lake City could possibly go the same way; at least eliminate one of the money pits.

The city of St. Louis has rescinded its offer to have you on the "Bring the NFL Back" campaign,If the NHL puts another team in Atlanta before Quebec I'm going to be baffled. There's no way propping up yet another failing Atlanta team for the 97th time in league history makes more sense. Having a team in a TV market doesn't matter if nobody in the market watches and you cancel out any gains sharing funds to keep the thing from sinking.
