Nothing to get excited about imo. If he can prove me wrong, great.

It's a pretty standard fringe NHLer contract. Having it be a 1-way contract is really good for Dewar.

If he does stuff, great. If he doesn't, he'll be sent though waivers. He might get claimed, but probably not.

he was more noticeable than Duhaime down the stretch. gets me excited to see a rather fast and annoying 4th line.

Dewar only played in 5 games of the last 20+ games of the season.

Dewar actually brought some solid physicality for his 5'10(?) frame.

and yet was more noticeable than Duhaime.

I only noticed him because it was a strange number on the ice.

Duhaime doesn't impress me much either, but at least he'll drop the gloves. He'll lose most of the time, but the message does get sent, and it's not an important player (Dumba/Foligno) doing the fighting.

It doesn't matter to me if either of them are on the team next year. They are cheap fringe players, and that's all MN can really afford.

I like both their games for the 4th line role, speed with some grit and a little skill mixed in. nothing to write home about but still a needed asset and they are cheap.

The issue with Duhaime is he started the season playing a gritty but effective game. Then toward the end of the season he abandoned most of his on ice play and decided to just try to be a small enforcer. I'm optimistic for Dewar because I similarly like what he can do on the 4th line and don't imagine he'll try to do anything but play the best hockey he can.

Agreed, might also be some untapped offensive potential in dewar too, he has a nice shot and always seems to make the smart play. Maybe he can top out at a 3rd liner but my hope is for for a high end 4th liner who can move up when needed.

Kaprizov - Hartman - Zuccarello
Greenway - JEE- Foligno
Gaudreau - Rossi - Boldy
Duhaime - Dewar - Jost?

This forward lineup is starting to look seriously undersized, with the obvious exception of the JEE line. Does Evason try to move players around once again to make sure that there is some physicality on each line?

Should Foligno and Greenway be split up? Is Duhaime "heavy" enough to make up for Dewar and Jost's lack of physicality?

Dewar doesnt lack physicality so that 4th line is fine however Jost should be with Rossi and Boldy and Gaudreau on the 4th line. there is enough size in that lineup that i am not concerned at all about it.

Gaudreau and Boldy are 6 foot. Duhaime is 6 foot. only line without a player 6 ft or taller is our top line which besides the playoffs where everyone disappeared they did just fine. what type of physicality are you needing to see to be happy? if we traded Zuccarello for a 7th to make sure we keep none of his contract and somehow sign Forsberg who is 6'1 does that bring enough size to the lineup?

Rossi a wing with Freddy G the center of the 3rd line. or Freddy G the 4C and Jost moves up as the 3C/W.

Keep the top-6 together and run both lines big minutes. Shelter the bottom-6. Rossi/Boldy pick up PP time, Freddy G and whichever scrub is better pick up PK time. Maybe by the Playoff the 3rd line will be ready for a bigger role,

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Rossi down in Iowa to start the season. Having him play lots of prime minutes down there might not be the worst thing. Neither would giving Chaffee or Shaw one more chance to make a dent in the lineup, especially Chaffee, who is sort of in now or never territory.Would also rather that Rossi plays C down in Iowa than wing in the NHL, for the short term anyway .

He shouldn't be handed a spot, but he should have every opportunity to earn it even if it means starting at wing. He needs to get stronger this summer, or improve his skating - or do both in a perfect world - and given that he's supposedly a big fitness freak if he can do that he shouldn't be held back just because he won't jump into maximum minutes.

You can order the lines however you want but listing it as 3rd still means he would be playing 12ish minutes per night at 5v5, time on the PP, and a chance to build chemistry. I'd rather he does that in the NHL if he's close to ready instead of go to the AHL just to play an extra 3-4 minutes per night.

It’d be very frustrating to see Rossi start in Iowa. This kid was pegged as being one of the most NHL-ready players in his draft year. I get the setbacks from COVID, but he needs to get a shot on a team that sorely needs a dynamic C to have any chance of competing next season.

He needs to start developing into an NHL center, which means taking NHL draws. GREEF and Kap’s line will take a lot of the hard assignments away from him. I truly hope Guerin pulls a rabbit out of his hat and finds a way to keep Fiala too because a Boldy-Rossi line really could use a veteran line driver.

I am really concerned about Minnesota's defense moving forward as the NHL is moving away from guys like Spurgeon/Brodin, responsible defensemen that chip in a few points here and there to guys like Makar, Hughes and Fox. I had hoped that Dumba would have developed into a lighter version of Burns - not 70-80 points, but 60 point (20-40), type of defenseman.

As much as Minnesota has built up depth on the left side of the defense, none of them scream Fox or Makar. I'm hoping that Lambos re-ignites whatever made him a top 5/top 10 ranked prospect, because Minnesota desperately needs some offense from the backend.

Rossi looked good, but not
Even close to
Dominant in Iowa. Dewar was better. Unless he had a really good summer, I am not sure how he can be expected to be much of a factor in the NHL in the fall.

Dumba is still in that 20-40 range. if he plays a full season he probably comes close to 40 but each of the last 4 seasons he has not played a full one but has hit at least 20 points in each.

20-40-60 points. He did hit 50, but hasn't been able to stay healthy at all.

I think you just need to give him 20+ games and if he doesn’t look the part, you send him back down. Dewar is 2.5 years older with 2 more years of professional experience, so I think it’s expected he’d have looked better.

This was Rossi’s first year back after 18+ months of no hockey. Given all of the circumstances, he performed exceptionally well. He was drafted as an NHL-ready prospect and he got his 1 year of professional experience to get back up to speed. I think he’ll look much better this camp after another offseason of training, he’s a very high IQ player so I think he can definitely be a factor even next year. Hopefully he comes into camp in shape and shows enough to get a shot. This team is going to need it.

indeed health is the biggest issue with him and that is why i am open to trading him. good guy, good player but we cant keep him around if he plays half a season and doesnt blow up for that half season he plays.

They used to run plays to get him open shots. I'm not sure why that changed but they don't seem to do that anymore. Or I am not recalling times that they did this year.

Rossi earned his shot through the first half of last season, if it wasn't for his contract slide. Might've lost a little steam towards the end but whatever. If we're losing Fiala, we need an influx of skill and he's the best we've got at the moment. Give him every opportunity to seize it.
