Saw a report that Spurgeon will be out the rest of the season, but should be ready to go for the playoffs

Forward play seems to be ok. Fluery is flopping around like a seal. All defence need to be healthy to have any hope of winning a series.

Assuming MAF does not stay (something about cap space shortage), who will be in goal besides Talbot next year?

you can find a league average goalie making 1M pretty easily. Sometimes you have to trade for them though. Might cost a 3rd , but we can keep reshuffling the position at a pretty minimal cost. And, Talbot has performed as about league average anyways this year.

Man you really realize how much fluff these podcasts are when you listen to Russo waste 20 minutes asking

How good was the team last night
How good was Middleton last night
How good was the defense last night
How good were the forwards last night
How about Kulikov last night
Man what a good game last night

Listening on 1.3x speed and using the "skip ahead 30 seconds" button is mandatory.

"Ya know what? They were pretty good!"

Russo is in a tough situation. If he asks too many tough questions then Guerin won't go his show. He does have to slip in at least one or two tough ones, though, or he will run the risk of losing his reputation as a neutral observer/journo, and merely be a thought of as a cheerleader. Maybe that's happened already?

I don't expect anything from LaPanta.

That's already happened for me.

It's hit political-speech territory for me this year. If there isn't a transcript to skim it's not worth suffering through.

Russo: "I wanna ask you about a couple other things before I open it up to the fans to ask you about Fiala's contract"
Guerin: "They can ask about other things too"

No one cares Bill, just sign the f***ing guy

As expected, Guerin doesn't want to talk about Fiala. That's a bad sign if you want to keep him.

Guerin once said he follows advice from his people at the front office doing the math, they need to make room for 22 players inside $67 million next season. Not easy.

Or you don't make public comments because if you set expectations one way or the other people will get upset.

"We want to sign Fiala" - Aren't able to come to an agreement on a number that will work for both sides. Trade him. People upset.

I would have no expectation of Guerin (or any GM) actually answering the question. I'm much more interested in seeing how he dodges it.

That I understand. Just don't get people that may be upset that he's not answering the question. Not thinking of anyone in particular. Just trying to set expectations, I suppose.

Gonna do this play by play live

I really like the way the guy loaded the Fiala question up  Gave an advance warning of what the topic was, spent a couple seconds buttering him up by complimenting his balls, and then asked what he's gonna do now that Fiala proved it on the prove-it contract.

Guerin: "Listen, this will all work out. Not work out in maybe the way we all want it to, I don't know which way it's going to work out. But we have to give it time. Honest to god, I don't know. The most important thing right now is that we stay focused and Kevin stays focused, and this will all work out one way or another and we'll have to deal with it. I really can't, you know the guy that asked the salary cap question about how far we plan out, you know, 'make plans, god laughs' so I don't know. I don't know what their expectations will be I don't know what ours will be I don't know what the market will be, I don't know. But right now, we're really enjoying watching this kid blossom and play some great hockey for us."

Not sure if that's been posted elsewhere yet, but that's the money shot of the entire podcast. Sounds like they're definitely leaning towards trading him if the market is right and his ask isn't 'team-friendly' but that's just my interpretation of the way he said it.

For all intents and purposes though, he's still putting the ball in Fiala's court to accept what Guerin offers. Sounds like they'll definitely talk about it and make offers, but I don't think Fiala's negotiating leash is going to be very long, unless the trade market for him is absolutely horrendous.

Something that needs to address next season is how putrid Minnesota's face off percentage is. The best player is Gaudreau sitting at a 50.3 face off win %. And the next three are gone (Sturm, Bjugstad, Rask).

Hartman sits at 44.7% and Eriksson-Ek sits at a 47.0%.

Either fire the coach that handles face offs, or ... actually I don't know what.

I'm 95% sure that Bjugstad is still on the team.
