Asked point-blank last week if he’s talking to other teams about Rossi, Wild president of hockey operations and general manager Bill Guerin said sarcastically, “Not today.”

But he then turned serious, and while he added the caveat that any player can be traded if the deal makes sense, Guerin told The Athletic, “No, I’m not looking to trade him.”

“I’m very happy with Marco – oh my god, yeah,” Guerin said. “Just his pace of play, his engagement every night, he has been one of our best players. I think the biggest thing, too — and I know this is the hardest thing for young players — is his consistency. We were commenting last game, he’s one of our better net-front presence guys. And he’s not the biggest guy, but he stands in there and that’s why he’s getting rewarded. All his goals are from 10 feet and less. He’s doing all the right stuff.”

I don't think that Rossis best spot is standing in front of the net. On PP, Zuccs spot would be the best for him imo.

Do you think there could be an offer sheet for Rossi in the Offseason? Let's say a feanchise offers him 7,5 mio for 4 years. Would you match that?
I'd take a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rather than pay him 7.5. His production to this point doesn't warrant that. Take the picks and use them to trade for an established stud on a team ready to start a rebuild.

I suspect Guerin would agree with you. I would rather keep Rossi. He’s also turning into a good defensive player. Far from a lock that Yurov comes over and can be a Top 6 C in the NHL.

We have a bunch of good prospects knocking on the door and the core of Kap, Rossi, JEE, Boldy, Faber and Brodin is ready to win now. Keep the young proven C, IMO.

I also like Rossi to show steady improvement longterm. By all accounts he is a tireless worker off the ice

You think Rossi has proven himself to the tune of $7.5M per year?

I'd rather trade for Barzal at 9.15, JT Miller at 8, Larkin at 8.7. There's no guarantee those guys are made available but I would rather keep the cap space and see what I could do with the picks than overpay and be right back in a position where we have no roster flexibility

$7.5M with coming cap raises is reasonable. He’s playing at a 65-70 point pace with solid defense.

Trading for any of those guys, especially Larkin, would cost a fortune in assets. Miller is like 10 years older and Barzal is just a flashier version of Rossi who is 5 years older

We just paid more than that for Jiricek , can you explain to me what he’s done to warrant that?

What's the most anyone has returned in a trade in the last five years? How much above a 1st, 2nd and 3rd was it?

This team has alot of prospects knocking on the door and the roster has very few spots available. I think a trade of some prospects or players should be expected at the deadline. Especially with the potential cap space available this summer

If the goal is to win a cup we really need to have the prospects hit and replace the dead weight. We can pick up a vet for free in the off season.

Plenty of forward spots available with Johansson expiring, Gaudreau waivable, and Lauko/Marat being nothing but filler. Not really seeing much knocking either, Yurov/Ohgren to an extent but nothing else. Chisholm's a tad better than filler on defense but he's getting exposed more now that he's playing more and Bogo can sit at any point. Limited elsewhere due to clauses.

Maybe Bankier for Dvorak(retained) or some other expiring guy for some depth, not really expecting much. Bankier has pulled it back a little after a horrid start but isn't really instilling much confidence and with potentially Stramel/Lorenz/Kumpulainen joining Iowa next year with similar upside might make sense to move the guy who hasn't found consistency in the first half of his ELC. I suppose Spacek could go if he's gained some value from his draft position but I'd say he's been on the same trajectory, clear blockages in front of him after the Jiricek trade.

Jiricek went for more than that. Hanifin went for about that much. So did Guentzel. Just in last 2 years.
Ok, so how much more? How much more would need to be added to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd we get from the team signing Rossi to get one of those three player? I'd add a 1st and another prospect to Rossi to get one of them.

That’s a steep price for players who may not even represent a longterm upgrade over Rossi. He’s trending to be as good as those players. Not sure I’d wager 2 1sts, a 2nd, a 3rd and a prospect on Rossi not reaching that level.

I agree but you also have to look at the roster next year. It is very crowded. Just to throw out names on lines it could look like this
Kap-rossi-zuc
?-yurov-boldy
Foligno-ek-hartman
Lauko-freddy-trenin
Missing ohgren-marat-heidt(still a year away probably)
With the rumors of Nelson coming here and them possibly going for a LW in free agency if they have cap space that makes it even more crowded. The lineup above while deep isn't a cup team if ohgren is the one sliding into top 6 lw
Defense is another story -brodin faber Spurgeon Middleton bogo Chisholm buium jiracek. The defensive prospects after these guys should be on the table for upgrades in the lineup.
Like I said crowded lineup

If Nelson comes here, the better of Ohgen/Heidt pushes Foligno down a line. The other waits another year.

where's a list of ufa rw next summer? assuming ohgren & heidt aren't ready then use mojo's 2 mill and upto 4 mill regained cap to add a solid (short term) rw.

There really isn't a thread that this fits into on our dysfunctional little subforum here, but the US is currently down 3-2 in the 2nd to Finland in the World Juniors.

I can't see it. Just following on the IIHF site.

Zeev has no points. Kumpulainen however, has an assist on Miettinen's (Not Antti's son. I looked.) goal for the Finns.

If...anyone cares.

There is a WJC thread

Well it's no secret that he's slowed down considerably (both in terms of physical speed and ability as a player), but I'm still a little surprised to see that Zuccarello is among the ~10 slowest players in the league so far this season
