Do you think Guerin will do something like this? I guess it's hard to find takers for Kap and Boldy, cap space says Wild can't retain much. Zucc should be easier to move.
Why would we trade Boldy? He’s still scoring 0.8 PPG and young. If we did, it certainly wouldn’t be difficult to find a buyer.

I think people forget Boldy is 22. Fiala got here when he was 23 and was as inconsistent as they get. You all love Fiala, but Boldy is a much better player at the same age. He’s young and frankly doesn’t have a lot of help. Of course he’s going to be inconsistent.

Very true. He is 4th in points from his draft class. Just eyeballing the points and games played, I think he's #2 in points per game as well behind Jack Hughes.

But it should also be said that he is the second highest paid forward on the team. He needs to score. He needs to be put in the best position to score too. Right now, I think that means he needs to be separated from Johansson.

Even playing like he is now it’s not an unreasonable contract. It’s a homerun Considering where he’ll be 3 years from now, actually. It’s just unfortunate the Boldy is on a team where he has to carry the load right now. It’s a lot to as a 22/23yo

I agree about Boldy. But Russo's article about him was depressing, maybe we shouldn't listen to him anyway.

I think it would wise to trade Zucc this deadline.
I don't think we can. Seem to remember that this year's deal was switched to a NMC when he re-signed.

I like Zucc a lot as a player, and don't have a problem with him as 4M/yr guy, at all, but if this team is going nowhere with him then I don't see the point of keeping around a guy in his late 30's. In other words, talking about trading 22 yo Boldy is insane, 36 yo Zucc completely normal, no matter what you think of their play this season so far.

I don’t think this is correct. CapFriendly lists him with a NMC with a 10 team NTC. Hartman and Foligno both got NMCs added to their deal this year and CapFriendly reflects that.

Thought Zucc had the same deal as Hartman and Foligno.

If you are right, and Zucc keeps scoring like he is, he should be a hot commodity at the TDL. 4m/year for a P/PG player is nothing, and the fact that he is signed for only two years after this an attractive feaure also, given his age. Would be a great depth piece for a Cup contender.

I think Washington is the team if they're still firmly in the playoffs in a few months. With Backstrom's career almost certainly over they are in need a passer to feed Ovi for the next few years. I doubt they'd be one of his 10 blocked teams. Zucc for Ryan Leonard as a base.

We would get our number blocked.

Connor McMichael is still the guy I would target from Washington, though much like Casey Mittelstadt I think that the discount ship has sailed.

The Fleury mask debacle is ludicrous IMO. NHL can’t help but get in its own way with issues they do not understand.

You don't re-sign Zucc and then trade him before his contact even starts. Good luck ever getting another player to take a discount, sign without a full NMC, or re-sign before his contract is up. It's not like players are lining up to sign in MN as it currently stands.

If trading him gets people to reconsider signing here after 30, I’m not gonna cry about starting that trend. He is well past his prime and we don’t need another country club. I was happy when he was getting rid of one, I’ll remain unhappy as he builds his new one.

This is so f***ed up

Agreed. Let him rock the mask, you do more damage saying no if we are trying to actually grow the game.

NHL saying hockey isn't for everyone with every move they make. Meanwhile, the Hawks are wearing THAT logo on their jerseys and sexually assaulting individuals without a care in the world from the league.

It's not really that black and white. In today's society everything is a powder keg waiting to explode. The NHL isn't trying to say hockey isn't for everyone, they're trying to avoid lighting any matches near the barrel of gunpowder.

I want him to wear the mask, and it sounds like he will, so that's great, but it's not about suppressing those types of things, it's about avoiding the multiple waves of backlash that inevitably follow stuff like this. It's a blanket "no" to everyone on everything. Though it's not really an effective rule if you keep letting people break it without punishment.

But is it a blanket no?

And yet...

I think it’s one of those things that the league went about correcting the “problem” in the wrong way. They shouldn’t force players to wear things that they don’t agree with ideologically speaking. But players should be able to wear things for warmups like the pride jersey or a military camo jersey or a Native American goalie mask if they so choose.

Just make theme nights where the players can support any number of things. Or have multi-theme nights.

I completely agree that's what they should do, allow anyone to opt in to anything they want, and not opt in for anything they don't want. But they've already fumbled all of this so badly, and honestly even if they did just say "this night we're honoring this thing, opt in if you want, if not, no worries", there would still be drama over the people who opted in or out of various things.

Totally agree. NHL has dropped the ball multiple times and has played a huge part in this blowing up.

I do think they could find a way to make it less controversial. Still work to be done.
