Is Steel a non-factor? I feel like everyone is writing him off because he isn't a legit 1C at the moment. But with cap constraints I don't see how this team is going to acquire a 1C.

Steel is just what Hartman was last year, a capable NHL player that produces better than his talent because of the guys he plays with.

I’ve been impressed this year. He is stronger on the puck and more tenacious since being moved up. Definitely an NHL talent but not the scoring C that 97 deserves

I think Steel has a higher upside that has yet to be discovered. But I do agree with your sentiment.

Agreed on all your points. I'm just not sure how this team can find a 1C anytime soon with cap constraints. So I think the focus should be continuing to develop Steel to see if he can reach that potential. He's done great stepping up so far.

He's almost 25, the list of players that go from 4th liner to top six at 25 is minuscule.

So what if he's almost 25? He's also provided the best offensive combination at 5v5 in a short amount of time.

Bringing up age is so irrelevant. I could try and spin some ridiculous take that Rossi is a bust because he's almost 22 and still in the AHL.

I don't think he's given enough credit because he's a pretty low profile character, but the numbers don't lie, and it's even better if he can be had at a cheap price. All I'm saying is with cap constraints with no real easy path to acquiring a true 1C, Steel should be appreciated more.

If Rossi was doing what Steel has as the 1C then everyone would be swooning over him. Hartman played his way out of the 1C spot to start the year. Freddy G was terrible when he was put in the 1C spot. Steel is nowhere near the ideal 1C, but he's at the very least made the Kap/Zucc line functional.

Part of me wonders if we should dismantle the GREEF line. Trade Greenway and Foligno. Trade for/sign Bo Horvat. Re-sign Freddy.

Kap-Horvat-Zucc
Boldy-Eriksson Ek-Hartman/Walker
Duhaime-Gaudreau-Walker/Hartman
Shaw-Dewar-XXXX

At least we’d have some semblance of a legit 1st and 2nd line
I think there’s next to no shot of this team bringing in any notable center in the next 2 seasons. Maybe 24-25 they could make something work.

Assuming Rossi & Faber make the team.

Kap - Hartman/Rossi - Zucc
Boldy - Rossi/Hartman - X
GREEF
X - Dewar - X
X

Middleton - Spurge
Brodin - Faber
Merrill - X
Goli

Fleury
X

$8.4M to fill in the X’s with Addison, Gaudreau, Duhaime, Shaw, Steel, and Gus

Might be able to make the money work to fill in the above roster if you sub Gaudreau out for an ELC guy like Walker or Beckman. Beyond that, I don’t see Guerin really doing much at all unless the cap goes up more than $1M. The Goli and Fleury 2nd years were really unwise cap decisions by BG.

I would hope that Steel realizes the opportunity he has been given here, and signs for his qualifying offer, or near to that(866,000). Certainly not much over 1M. His game still doesn’t excite me, but he’s better than Jost was, and cheap.

I don’t really care, myself. If Gus keeps up his play then he is the most important player to re-sign, followed by Addison, then Gaudreau.

So one guy can ride coat tails and get $7m x 7, and the other guy that does the same thing gets close to league min?

Steel's arbitration eligible, he's not taking the qualifying offer, staying on that line he's going to end up with 40+ points. I have him above Gaudreau, I think they will be in the same price range but that could change, either is probably going to be tight though(Steel might take less term given age which is more appealing as neither is a long-term solution). I don't trust Evason to play Rossi with Kap/Zucc(which is where Steel is showing might be the best spot on this team for him) and Hartman hasn't given me any confidence that he can play another game at center, Steel is better than Gaudreau on that line.

It's only been half a season....it's a very small sample size really, but wouldn't it be a little funny if Gus turns out to be a steal?

Posting this thread because the respond or quote is too hard and its freezes. Does anyone think dumba did something we aren't aware of and he's being punished? No way this happens if Guerin didn't give his approval on something. Remember how Russo eventually revealed Jordan greenway's Detail?

1) trying to figure out how the team looks without him.
2) prolly trading him soon

Dumba has no history of discipline problems that I can think of. He was given a letter for reason.

It's just weird the way Dean Evason is talking about dumba, almost like punishment. Can people help Me with these new features? It's hard for me. Skips around and get stucked

From what I've heard, there are no discipline issues with Dumba....and nobody is questioning his effort on the ice. It's just poor play. That, and they want to get Goligoski some ice time.

@Sebastien You can end someone else's quote with a [/quote]

I haven't experienced any of the issues that others have. Normally when I hit reply it sticks my cursor in the right spot without me doing anything.

I believe Goligoski's agent called Guerin and asked him what's going on since Goose hasn't been playing. So I guess Guerin is looking for a way to put him in the lineup.

Dumba, who had a terrible game against the Caps, became the victim. This allowed Guerin to put him in the press box to make room for Goose.
