He reminds me more of a 22 year old Spurgeon with better offensive instincts than a 22 year old Barrie.
I think comparing to either player is inaccurate. Spurgeon's always been good at defense, and Barrie was so horrible at it that it seemed intentional.

Addison is just bad at it, not because he's cheating or has poor awareness, but because he has none of the defensive zone skills, besides positioning, at his disposal. It's great he's in the right place at the right time, it's not so great that he can't do anything while there. I hope he gets better in that regard as he grows older and stronger. I think some additional muscle strength would go a long way on that end of the ice.

This season he's a PP specialist. Maybe he becomes more in the future, but you don't stick Hunt with a rookie PP specialist as his 5v5 partner for his first NHL games. That pairing would get caved in.

No, he was never bad, but he was abused physically early on. A lot of rough stuff was let go back then.

Addison just needs to learn how to play in the NHL with his lack of "physical advantages", which I'm sure he will.

Spurgeon was never bad, but he wasn't anything close to what he is now. I have faith that Addison can improve too.

In any case, if all this discussion is to say we shouldn't play Hunt with Addison if Hunt gets the chance here, I wouldn't disagree with that. If all this discussion is spill over from the 'trade Addison' discussion, I still don't see a reason for that.

Boxing out is/will probably be an issue, but I think he can easily learn to be really efficient at getting pucks off of the wall quickly and making quick decisions to get pucks out of the zone/start the breakout in flow.

The wild are just what they’ve always been, a mediocre team. It’s crazy that we always have the unlikely scenario play out and stop us from a proper rebuild. In 2012, when it looked like we were poised to finally have a basement dweller season with a strong draft coming up, we signed Parise and Suter to those deals. We’d be in a nice rebuild window right now if we hadn’t gotten a true franchise player with a 5th round pick. We’re pinning our hopes on snagging more too if the lineup guys with mid first rounders. I don’t think it will work, but hey it’s hard to build a winner. It’s just a sad reality that we’re going to be living in this middling area for a while longer.

lol but when we suck people bitch. Need to pick a lane.

You know what really grinds my gears? When people bring up Fialas playoff performance last year.

The whole team was trash but let’s key on Fiala.

Guerin had ruthlessly screwed him out of money and time. Bridged him and asked him to prove it and then gave him no chance. When he did everything he was asked and more he was shown the door and knew
It. How the f*** was he supposed to buy in and leave it all on the ice for this team after what they had done to him????

Guerin and Evason are pure absolute trash. I’d take Fletcher and Yeo back if it meant getting rid of them.

Too bad they ran the GM that was building a competitive on-ice team out of town.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on the team/season:

Just like the gameday the release version of the game the team is buggy and unwatchable.

i don't think the wild have ever had a good GM. fletch gave away draft picks like halloween candy. also fletch hasn't done anything in philly.

Fenton. Fenton was trying to make wholesale changes to the roster and was the one who brought in Fiala and Boldy. If he lasted longer than 10 months this team would look vastly different than it does now.

i must disagree with that statement. fenton was horrible see nino; coyle & filip johansson. boldy fell and was a no brainer pick.

I know the Boldy part is not true because half of the people here wanted Newhook and the other half wanted Caufield.

Nino and Coyle have been nothing special since leaving for the most part, and Fiala more than made up for it. So I'm willing to look past some of his worse moves. Gotta break some eggs to make an omelette or however that goes.

The Fiala playoff criticism is 100% valid IMO.
He knew he was gone and how he was treated was pathetic. I would have absolutely turtled also. If I was him I would have hoped for the wild to be swept so I could move on to a team that actually wanted me.

The only bad real bad Fenton trade was Nino/Rask. I'll take the Coyle/Donato trade every time. Everything about the FJ (I still think he should have been signed) pick was weird.

Fenton was responsible (draft/trade/FA signing) for Fiala (85p), Boldy (39p), Zucc (79p), Hartman (65p), Dewar (6p), Rask (13p), Sturm (17p), and Beckman (1p) from last year's team. This was just in 1 season as the GM. He was an ass personality wise, but he did bring in quality players.

I wouldn't even say Boldy was a complete no-brainer with Knight, Newhook/Krebs, York, and Caufield also on the board. That USDP team was so stacked that there were questions of which players were the driver/passenger on it's lines.

Guerin on Fiala,

Well, Kevin just had 3 good months.

That quote tells you all need to know. It was a power struggle, like most of the NHL. Old school guys, play-the-game-right, do-as-you-are-told. This is a really stupid league. I could do a better job as GM than Guerin, and I have never even played hockey.

You would just need to keep your eyes open as to who actually has offensive skill.

Yeah, no. If he Intentionally turtled in the postseason for those reasons, then he would be a pretty pathetic player who doesn't belong in the league.

But I'm pretty sure he did no such thing and struggled for other reasons.

i wanted newhook C but i never thought boldy would fall and neither did anyone else! ps smashville would have NEVER traded fiala if they thought he would explode. we got lucky end of story.

Sure feels a bit unfair to blame Fenton for his bad moves but simultaneously give him no credit for the good moves. He had eye for talent and he deserves credit for that, even if he had some obvious shortcomings in other aspects of being a GM.
