It feels like Berube bet on aligning himself with the players and not really challenging them. I don't think you can buddy up to the core, be part of the country club, ride the highs of those big party games and comeback heroics without these massive hangover kind of games.
Berube's job was to install an all business approach but I think has fallen victim to up and down cycle of Auston and Mitch hockey. They might come back in the third and look like conquering heroes, they might look like dogs the rest of the game, but to me the low effort of the first and second period means process doesn't work.
I don't understand all this emphasis on D when the D wasn't really why they could never advance in the playoffs. Is there any indication that they will be able to score goals when it actually matters? Not really. So what was the point of hiring Berube?
