The Heartlanders just signed their first player and will be looking to add to their roster soon.

At this point, with one player officially announced by the Heartlanders, the team has work to do and announcements to make before the season begins. Head Coach Gerry Fleming emphasized the club will have more players announced before training camp opens in early October. Besides the Heartlanders’ own ECHL contracts, Iowa is expected to receive help from the Iowa Wild and Minnesota Wild by having players reassigned and loaned. That will help fill the team’s competitive roster.

The Iowa Wild just dropped their new Promo schedule.

Two more signings...soon they could have a enough for a practice!

Coralville, Iowa – Forwards Jack Billings and Ben Sokay have signed their first professional contracts with the Iowa Heartlanders, the team announced Friday. They are the second and third players to join the Heartlanders’ inaugural squad as the team prepares for the season opener at Xtream Arena on Fri., Oct. 22.

The two were teammates at Niagara University for two seasons (2018-20) and linemates during the 2019-20 campaign. Billings finished his NCAA career in 2020-21 and Sokay graduated in 2020. Both look to translate a solid amateur career to the pro game; Sokay scored a career-best 11 goals for Niagara in 2019-20. That same season, Billings topped Niagara with a personal-best 12 goals.

AHL streams free this weekend, when Iowa has a couple of games. You have to sign up, but don't need to pay anything. Go down to the bottom of the page to FAQ, which addresses this. https://www.watchtheahl.com/#/

would be nice to see if Beckman continues his hot play, Rossi improves, how Lodnia and Khovanov look and if Addison continues to look good.

I always think of Rossi as being so young, and he is, but was surprised to see that Beckman is only 4 months older than him. For that matter, Boldy is only one month older than Beckman. I don't know if that means we should be more patient with the latter two, or more impatient with Rossi.

2-0 win against Texas last night. Iowa looked good, but a bit disjointed. Very similar to the big club, really. Game was oddly reffed, with the Wild getting a ton of calls against, so they didn't have time to get much going offensively. Three 5 on 3's against!

Rossi and Beckman were ok, but not noteworthy. Dewar had two points, and looked good. It was interesting to see that they had him out there as in the 5 v 3 situations. Addison is a wonderful skater, and so confident with the puck. Mermis was active. Hammond was vg. Khovanov did not play. Unless he has an injury, that's a predictable, but not promising start to his season after him being too careless to make sure that his paperwork was in order to get in camp on time.

Rossi with his first goal, and it's a beauty. Ends as a wraparound, but before that he was dominating the puck in the offensive zone, making some really smart decisions, then losing his coverage.

Dewar, Swaney twice, Giroux, and now Chaffee scoring. Beautiful passing play on the last goal by Dewar, Rau, and Chaffee with the finish.

...and Giroux again off the rebound from a Beckman clapbomb. Dewar looks really good out there.

Alex Nylander sure is a disappointment. Didn't see anything in his game tonight to suggest that he might be a NHL'er at some point in the future.

Interesting that Hammond is getting #1. Wonder if they are less than confident in KK?

Swaney with 4 goals in two games. He has nice, NHL level hands.

Beckman with his first goal, ripping a shot from 25' out. It took me a while to figure him out. Sometimes he looks above average in speed, others average. He has to learn how to consistently play fast. I recall that Kunin was slow footed when he first came to the league, as was Tuch. If (and i think he will ) Beckman figures out what they did then he will be more than a good enough skater for the NHL...I think his speed will be somewhere in between the two players mentioned above.

Dewar still looks like the best overall forward out there for me. Plays all situations, very nice skater, smart, and skilled.

Giroux, Rau, Shaw, Chaffee all look good.

Rossi missed his 2nd game in a row. Have to admit that I am more than a little bit worried that it might be Long Haul symptoms showing their ugly face. My understanding is that it isn't an injury.

Fun to see Perfetti and Rossi facing of against one another. Rossi looks sharp after one period.

Baribeau excellent facing 30 shots in a 4-1 win against MB Moose. Rossi with two primary assists. One was a Granlundesque saucer to Cramarossa on a 2 on 1. He is clearly the best puck handler I've seen down in Iowa since Boldy. Made some strong defensive plays also...covered Reichel (Lukas's brother) defending a line rush, and denied him the net, eventually felling the bigger, older, player.

So, not dominant, but looking very good.

The Iowa Heartlanders executed the first trade in team history Monday, acquiring forward Jonathan Desbiens from the Maine Mariners in exchange for future considerations.

Desbiens (pronounced: DAY-bee-en) played one game for Maine, ECHL affiliates of the Boston Bruins. He signed an ECHL contract with the Mariners this summer.

The 25-year-old skated for Bentley University from 2016-20 and scored 102 points (49g) in 139 career games. He was tied for the team lead in points as a senior in 2019-20 (30 pts.).

Also,

The Iowa Heartlanders announced Tuesday goaltender Trevin Kozlowski has been loaned to the Heartlanders from the Iowa Wild.
