Wow. Big move from Guerin. I get the rationale for freeing up expansion slots on forward and defense but...holy mama.

Suter is slowing down, but he can still play right now. I guess they think one of Addison/Mennell is ready for a full-time role.

The long-term cap ramifications are ugly though. These were buyout-proof contracts. From 22-23 to 24-25 they're going to have ~$13-15 million in dead space from these buyouts. That's tough to manage. They still need to replace these guys on the roster with other players.

What are the Wild doing? They're going to have $12.7 million in dead cap space in 2022-2023 and $14.7 million in dead cap space in both 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. Is this basically just admitting the Wild are going to rebuild?

I can kinda understand buying out Parise, but absolutely not Suter.

Maybe the GM don't expect to be there that long?

If Suter had accepted the move to Edmonton, with 26% retention it would have been better option than Keith.

I took that retention sum so the cap hit would be about the same as Keith's.
Yeah. But Suter's contract runs for 4 season as opposed to 2 for Keith which a much higher cap hit. Edmonton would probably not want that.

Also, I bet the buyouts at the same time are probably because they want to continue playing for the same team.

Good lord, they're going to be paying them the same cap hit not to play for them for years 2-4, and then paying a league minimum cost for years after, just to save some cash for next season.

Wild. (Pun intended)

ha! Nailed it

It makes sense why Kaprizov would want to leave as well.

Suter will find a spot easily. He's still decent. Parise will probably also find a spot on a cheaper one year deal, he could be a decent pickup for that. And they're gonna be getting that sweet buyout money, so they can look for best fit and shot at a cup if they want to now.

In before both sign for one year, one million each in Tampa lol.
