In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Serverhe and his agent were super pushy when he was in columbus about how he should be playing in the NHL (and in the top four) pretty much since the start of the 23-24 season.![]()
How Wild prospect David Jiricek is handling scratches — and development: ‘You have to have patience’
Jiricek isn't as ticked off as Wild fans but would obviously rather be in the lineup. "I'm not going to lie, I still want to play."www.nytimes.com
They forced their hand and now they have no leverage... The only leverage he has left to use is his play, that's a lot of pressure on a young kid.he and his agent were super pushy when he was in columbus about how he should be playing in the NHL (and in the top four) pretty much since the start of the 23-24 season.
it's fair to wonder how much of this is a genuine attitude change versus the agent realizing the optics of doing that to yet another team that doesn't think he's ready.
How is this a big oof for Minnesota?looks like a big oof for the wild
You'll definitely find it's always something with this kid. There is no conspiracy or playing issue with Jiricek. It was a logistic issues.
I hope so, him getting physically bullied and the fact he thinks he's NHL ready doesn't look like a good start but hopefully he can be a reg in the lineup next year. How is this a big oof for Minnesota?
I'm going to say this again and maybe the people in the back will finally hear it; Minnesota was not looking for a franchise defenseman. They were looking to round out their defensive unit and Jiricek fits that criteria to a T.
(1) There is a lot to be said about obtaining a solid middle 4 defenseman like Soucy or Seeler, coincidentally both former Minnesota defensemen.
(2) Minnesota needed another right-handed defenseman to slot behind Faber and round out their top 6 guys. Jiricek does just that and fits the timeline they are looking at. Spacek is solid, but there is some concern about Spacek being another smallish defenseman on a team of small defensemen.
His call up earlier this year showed that he has a place on the Wild and a good off-season should dispel any issues with him not being in the NHL and even if he starts in the AHL next year, he's going to be on the short list to be brought up.
Minnesota did not lose anything; Hunt is a good defenseman, but Minnesota has Buium and Middleton in front of him and a bunch of meh guys fighting for that last slot. They also had acquired a lot of draft picks before and after this year's draft. This year's draft depth was also said to be pretty mediocre at the very least. As mentioned above, the three other teams after Minnesota also traded their draft picks. 8 of the last 12 teams this year have moved their draft picks. Teams don't seem to like this draft.
As for why Jiricek was brought up and was not playing; the timeline for Brodin was in flux. Merrill was actually playing pretty good and Bogo was...well Bogo. They already burned 3 of their 4 call-ups and wanted Jiriciek to be with the team in case another injury happened. Even Bogo wasn't 100%, so they had to keep Jiricek here just in case Bogo went down. There is no conspiracy or playing issue with Jiricek. It was a logistic issues.
When the trade was made, the Wild's pick was 31st. Today it's 23rd. Have a feeling it's going to keep getting better for Columbus
Unfortunately on HFBoards you are either a surperstar or a dime a dozen player with no added value. There’s no in betweenHow is this a big oof for Minnesota?
