Mike Richards VIII Kings vs NHLPA

so many other lawyers were adamant that settlement can't and won't be made. How about a healthy dose of WRONG for $500, Alex?

I dont know enough one way or the other but Im shocked that settlements like these are allowed. I was 100% sure Richards was going to fight this tooth and nail. maybe Dean's leverage was stronger than we had imagined?

Please do. I hate it so much when people post their opinions as facts.

Anyone else think that Richards decided to settle so he could sign with another team? I know he was a UFA, but maybe the other team had some reservations due to the dispute and wanted everything to be resolved first?

I doubt it. I still have to bet that he lost his work Visa. It's the only thing that makes sense from the Kings' perspective.

It's not too surprising. If all parties are satisfied by the terms then there's no reason to avoid settlement. The NHLPA wanted to make sure Richards got paid. That was their primary concern.

I think as well. Pretty hard to fulfill your contract if you can't cross the border and work legally in the U.S.

Mike Richards might be lucky that Dean didn't go all the way to the mat on this one.

makes a lot of sense looking at it that way. the only other thing Im wondering is what implications it will have on the cap, but we'll find that out soon enough

Yeah, but we have to root for it, right?

It all means nothing though if the Kings crap the bed this season.

It could mean a lot
Cap hit for 5-10 years avoided/reduced
This could be the second to last hurdle before signing Kopitar

Well, in the short-term, any cap number is unlikely to have an impact, but if long-term they get a sweet deal in comparison to a standard buyout, that's something to celebrate no matter what happens this season.

Mushroom cloud.

Please go on like an 8 game winning streak too.

Hype intensifies.

I don't know very much about the legal system. It's just that you present ideas of scenarios that may play out in that thread and guys are immediately like "blaah! that would never happen, can't happen. The Kings are screwed because this guy on the chargers tried to cross the border with a **** load of cocaine once".

Richards' will not sign anywhere. He's done...just like Dustin Penner and half the first cup winning second line.

Westgarth, Gagne, Fraser, MR, and Penner are all out of the league or retired. That was only 3-4 years ago. Pretty sad.

Mitchell is probably 1-2 years from retirement and Scuderi is hanging by a thread.

Gagner, Richards and to a lesser extent Penner should never be compared to Westgarth and Fraser. They are on a different skill level.

I know you're joking (or are you :sarcasm:) but there is already a business of hockey board thread for the Richards scenario and those are incredibly civil. The main board is South Central, BoH board is Irvine hills.

Sorry, but we're heading down to South Central wearing our purple and gold bandanas.
