I'm certain Kings retained some salary, up to 30% or so, less than a buyout. And I'm sure we were sending assets their way, probably picks if we retained, perhaps Martinez or Weal without any retention.

For the Oil Jones would have been the main factor, not sure what Cgy wanted

WTF are you talking about? I listened and agreed and thanked this Kings17 guy when he provided basically the same answer you did, which makes sense and answered my question. Pretty sure that's what a fair exchange is. Sorry I didn't agree with you first as you obviously took it personal.

Here are a few questions you have skirted. Agreeing with someone isn't the same as not responding to questions and then continuing to ask more and more of your own.

Why would the two sides be in contact talks prior to that time?(re the Kings and MR)
The season was over and both sides knew that MR would not be a King next season so the only reason to talk would be to finalize MR's buy out.

So doesn't it make more sense that MR and his reps would wait until the buyout to mention anything?

To me it makes the most sense that MR would try to hide his legal troubles and everything else in order to get the full amount of his contract via buyout.

Why would DL wait until he is about trade MR to back out of a deal?

Why would the Oilers (chia) and the Flames (tree) confirm that they were in "serious negotiations" with DL regarding the potential of an MR deal if they weren't?

Your theory makes no sense when you add in the rest of the facts that we knew/know about.

I have seen you ask allot of leading questions but haven't seen you answer many. That is what I am talking about.

I'm sure once Dean was informed he went with the Lucic deal instead. Plus you never know, perhaps he had a separate package lined up already for Lucic.

Wait a minute.

Wasn't the Lucic trade the morning of the draft and later in the day he was informed of the Richards' issue and then blew off the trade possibilities?

Pretty sure that's the timeline.

Fugu on the Business of Hockry discussion on this topic brought up something interesting.

Mike Richards' player profile was removed when you use the search function on the NHLPA website. He's also been removed from the list of Kings players when you search by team, which still does include Voynov and Stoll on there.

When typing "Richards" in their search engine, you get results for Brad Richards and Brad Richardson. Fascinating stuff.

Hell, Chris Pronger's name still comes up if you type his name in their search engine, updated to show that he's a member of the Coyotes. Same with Marc Savard on the Panthers.

Could a player be removed from the Players' Association?

I was listening to the Marek vs Wyshynski podcast. They were talking about the Voynov situation and Wyshynski brought people comparing the Voynov and Richards situations. And he said "Don't (compare them). There's a lot more to it then simplely a guy gets stopped at border"

Not anything new to anyone who's been using thier brain. But it's the fist person who appears to know what happened that is saying it's not just about him getting caught with Oxy at the border. He also said in an earlier podcast that fans may want to hold off from talking about what jersey Richards would be wearing next season.

It's at about the 27:15 mark of the July 3rd podcast.

If he doesn't have an NHL contract, I don't think he's still part of the NHLPA is he? The alumni association perhaps?

This is a good sign from an appeals standpoint.

This also brings me back to the reactions of the Buccigrossi of the media. Something bigger hasn't be released yet.

His page is still on the site. http://www.nhlpa.com/the-players/profile/mike-richards

Well, Regher is on there, he's retired. Stoll is on there, he doesn't have a contract. Then again, Bryzgalov isn't on there, Cooke is, Burish no, and so on. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, really.

Richards profile is actually still there, it's just not listed. Their URL system is h_ttp://www.nhlpa.com/the-players/profile/firstname-lastname

That would be hilarious if the NHLPA didn't even file an appeal.

If that happened..

Weiss isn't there.
Semin isn't there.
All bought out players aren't there. It's possible that Richards isn't in the NHLPA, but it's more likely that guys without contracts (except guys who were typical UFAs) are removed from the site until they get contracts.

so there's STILL no new updates on this whole situation? other than the inevitable TMZ leak regarding the oxy, this has been eerily quiet considering the vast implications for all parties involved. I realize the canadian privacy laws prohibit some things, but it still seems odd to me that Richards' camp and NHLPA haven't made any further statements on this yet.

RIght - I looked back at Twitter. Lucic happened around 1:45pm Pacific and Lombardi called things off with the Flames & Oilers around 30 min to an hour into the draft (roughly 4:30pm Pacific).

So we know Jones wasn't a part of those discussions.

well, we don't know how far back the CGY and EDM talks went though, right? Those could have been in the works for awhile - Jones may have been a part of that at some point, but clearly the Lucic deal was prioritized (and rightly so).

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
a tale of the Lucic Trade
that was done before the draft
and announced by 2pm

Lombardi was a savvy gm
Solomon wise and cagey
They were trying to trade Mike that day
to a Pacific Division rival
a Pacific Division Rival.

The news started coming in
Mikey had been popped
at the border with Oxy days before
his contract couldn't be shopped
his contract couldn't be shopped

Mike's contract got terminated
the following Monday
with little detail,
No press conference.
No Q & A,
or union fight,
Just Macramella and Buccigross
here on Dry Island!
