Mike Richards IV: Started From The Bottom, Still Here *MOD WARNING Post #194*

I hope he wins it as it likely means we win another cup first and foremost. Also because it would help his trade value

Winning the Cup is a foregone conclusion, since it is obvious the league has fixed the ultimate outcome.

I have no problem with Brown. He's still the captain and contributes with his hitting (that MR no longer does).

Brown also still has 10 goals. Richards has 5.

Brown's minus is bad, -14. Granted, we all expect more from him, his contract was given because he captained two cups and is the longest standing King. He has only played for this organization. His contract doesn't bother me as much.

Brown belongs firmly on the 3rd line but we all know that's not how Sutter coaches. Expecting anything more from a 3rd liner is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Richards still sucks Defensively. He has to get more positional sound to change that part of his game.

I'm more confident that Brown will work on his game in the off-season then I am that Richards will.

Brown has always been a turnover machine, and bad Defensively. It's just now going to be exposed; cause Brown is no longer with Kopitar as much.

Brown has work to do as well.

Brown no goals, two assists in last 18. Richards looks like Jeremy Roenick did towards the end of his career. They're both terrible contracts that the team has to somehow live by for the foreseeable future.

Stoll/Richards just might deep six the Kings down the stretch here. The Center depth is killing this team when they make mistakes.

It's also hurt the scoring depth considerable despite the Kings winning a lot of games in Feb/March. Lombardi needed to land a Center at the deadline.

You have been following this team for awhile, as have I. Can you think of a worse defensive center than Mike Richards?

I'm struggling to think of someone who was so consistently exposed shift after shift after shift.

Stoll the last 35 games.

Stoll/Richards have left the Kings center depth in shambles. It shows on the offensive side as well.

I am no Stoll fan, but no way. Stoll was as big an offensive blackhole as we have seen in years but no way was he anywhere near as bad defensively as 10.

The last 35 games Stoll was costing the Kings everywhere on the ice. His career is done, just like Richards.

I think Jamie Lundmark looked better as a King than Richards has this season, that's how bad it's gotten.

I think bringing in Derek Armstrong at his current age would be more effective than Richards.

Did anyone really think a few weeks in Manchester was going to change anything? The ONLY hope is that something changes this offseason with his work ethic and dedication to the game. This season, he is what he is.

He played really well in Manchester though. And before everyone says it, yes I'm fully aware it's not the NHL.

Is 2-28 the shooters records?

On NHL.com the shooters this season are 5-for-32. Gaborik is 2-for-5, Kopitar is 1-for-8, Carter is 2-for-8, everyone else has been shutout. Doughty, Lewis, Brown, Williams, King, Richards, Stoll, Toffoli have all had a shot or more and failed. Toffoli is 0-for-4.

What do you expect from him? Who should he put out there, Clifford? Nolan? Who would you put out there?

The shoot out is a skills competition, if Toffoli, Kopitar, Doughty, etc. can't score, that's on them, not Sutter.

This season Kopitar, Carter and Gaborik are a combined 5-for-21. Last season they were 12-for-29. That's a big reason for our piss poor shootout record this year, not Sutter's coaching.

Maybe something like an hour of shootout practice at the end of every practice until the Kings are no longer one of the worst teams in the league at it? With Gaborik/Carter/Kopitar it's a joke that the team has that bad of a record. I would like to have seen those 3 take the initiative to fix the problem, but when that didn't happen it was Sutters job to deal with the issue.

Sure, but that is the point. We all second guess coaching decisions but I think Sutter gives the Kings the best chance to win. Sutter is certainly not perfect and
sometimes the Kings are not the most exciting team but he played his part in the Kings winning 2 Stanley cups.

I don't think it's about second guessing coaching decisions... Sutter has proven that he has trouble generating offense in the regular season. If the other teams in the division are bad and the Kings are gifted a playoff spot it isn't a problem.... this year ... well they got a couple games left to see if they can pull it off.

And Richards was rewarded tonight by being bumped up with Brown/Lewis and getting extra shifts at the end of the game. Not really sure why? Sutter forgot to take his meds?

I'm surprised more people are cheering for Richards to play better... if he's terrible down the stretch that only increases the chances he won't be able to be traded.

Richards will not be back in LA next season, even if he can't be traded. Just far to many games like tonight over the past two seasons to even entertain the thought of bringing him back. Like I said earlier, -14 in 15 games against Chicago since 2012, that should tell you he can't keep up against the best teams in the league.

The buyout penalties, even in the two years they are near four million are still better than having a $5.75m AHL caliber player for five more years. The Kings have some holes that need to be filled if they want to contend the next couple of seasons they need the cap relief a buyout provides.

I just don't see this team with a cap penalty being able to "contend" is all.
