Actually, it would be really weird if he went IMO. Wouldn't really be sending a message if he was back on the team for a trip that celebrates their success.

Lombardi has show time and time again that he's going to do the last thing you'd expect him to do.

That, or, That Thing You Do.

Dunno the circumstances, but he should really be there. Can't help but feel bad for him. I know it was a very embarrassing situation, but he should still go, though you can see it from both ways. Obviously it is awkward for him and he has already done it before, but it just seems wrong for him not to be there.

I don't really care for the comments and now actions since the demotion. I praised Richards for maintaining his cool and acting professional as the wheels were falling off with the Kings, but now he just seems to be acting really bitter.

I'm not sure if he should go or not. Has there ever been a situation in the past when a player won a cup and the next year was in the minors? Likely a rookie, but if so was that player recalled to the pro team just to make the trip to the White House?

Yeah, I am on the fence here because we really don't know the context of some of his comments. If he is pissed off about being demoted (he has only himself to blame), and is distancing himself from the team, then the Kings should just cut him loose by giving him his unconditional release.

If on the other hand he is embarrassed by the situation and is trying to focus on righting whatever is wrong with his play, then I think we have to cut Richards some slack.

The Kings can't Cut Mike Richards lose, he would cost to much. I think Richards doesn't care about going to the White house.

Frankly I wouldn't either in his shoes.

He might just be embarrassed to see his teammates or doesn't want to be a distraction.

IF he has a crappy attitude, keeping him around in Manchester costs something as well. If he has an attitude problem, he better realize that he can still be paid and not play at all the rest of this season.

I understand, I just feel like this is more of a sign of his anger with Lombardi when he should be celebrating what he accomplished with his teammates last year.

As far as the comments after the demotion, I would have liked him to take ownership and blame for the demotion. I feel like he kind of tried to make DL out to be the bad guy and that wasn't fair. I would guess that the vast majority of NHL GM's would have used the buyout if they were in Dean's shoes, yet Dean showed trust and loyalty. I am just amazed that MR was apparently shocked about being demoted, would just love to know what MR expected the Kings to do after 130 games of awful play.

The Kings are not going to eat 20 million and a 10 year cap hit above 1.8 million with year four/Five being above 4 million.

Because a guy has a bad attitude.

Richards is stuck on the Kings, the Kings are stuck with Richards.

What exactly did Richards say that has you guys all bunched up ? He didn't elaborate what was said between he and the GM ?....

Frankly that's none of anyone business.

Richards kept the interview's short, said "I am here to play, cause I was told too, I will try to help this team and not get in the way".

What exactly is wrong with that ?

Yeah, I don't know what he expected either. I think after the organization gives him some time to wrap his head around what has happened that he better do his best to fit in down in Manchester and improve his play so Dean has some other options for him, whether it be returning to the Kings, or a trade.

If it was me, I wouldn't have taken the risk, and would have bought out his contract last summer. Dean, I am sure is given points by the vets on the big club for not doing that, but it was a mistake.

Yeah, I think anything written on our part about his attitude is pure speculation. That's why every statement I made is prefaced with "if". If I was Richards, I wouldn't feel much like talking to a kid that is a blogger from Manchester either.

I really don't see it as bitter.

Why deal with the awkwardness of being around the team, staff, and the added attention of the EPIX film crew that would absolutely draw attention to him being there to partake in something that might not be that big a deal to him anyway?

I think his comments and actions are fairly interpreted either way. But personally, I read it as a guy hurting, who wants to distance himself from crap and just play hockey, and be a good solider about it without being a distraction. And that's coming from someone who didn't like his last comment. I think he's just trying to refocus.

I'm with you. Sometimes we try to overthink things. If DL told Mike Richards that it would be nice for him to be there, just like a good soldier, I'm sure he'd show up. Heck, there's been players that haven't done the White House thing as a political statement of some sort. im sure he wasn't in Boston yesterday to be with the "boys". Is that demonstrating a bad attitude too? Why don't we just give the guy a break? The Kings have decided that Richards is not as valuable to the Kings as Nolan, Clifford, Shore, Lewis, King, et al so let's just leave it at that and see how this plays out.

I've said it before, the Kings knew the contract they traded for and, given hind-sight, even with this unfortunate situation, they and any one of us would do the trade again, knowing it would help win 2 cups in 3 years.
