Emotionally, I don't want to see Richards traded. I want to see him wearing the Kings jersey again in the playoffs this year. I'm there with you, Chain.

I'll play hockey on the moon for an average of $5.75MM a year. Wouldn't expect him to complain.

But he is still losing money. The per diem for travel days is $67 in the AHL and under the last CBA it started at $100 for the NHL with yearly adjustments.
Then you have the pride of being demoted. Which is the biggest thing really.

@DennisTFP: @BIGMAC0918 Here's reality: Leafs had pro scout at Hawks-Kings. Kings had Dir Player Personnel/scout at Leafs-Yotes. Leafs GM in Manchester

@AndyTonge1: For the people trying to completely write off Nonis being here, GMs don't scout games all that often. That's why they hire scouts.

@AndyTonge1: Not that its relevant, but the last time someone with "GM" in their title came to Manch to scout a game, Gaborik was traded to LA.

@TFP: Los Angeles Kings :: Kings active in trade market http://t.co/PmWKynPlnG

Richards didn't play in the Hawks/Kings game, so they weren't scouting Richards there.

GM's do scout on occasion but they tend to do most scouting around the trade deadline. Trade deadline is a month away, no stunner Nonis is out looking at players and like another quote in this thread said, he has other games this weekend planned, and they weren't identified as more Kings/Monarchs games.

And Gaborik was traded for Matt Frattin and two picks. No guys from Manchester were involved in the deal.

Nothing but 'journalists' trying to put to much info together to make smoke.

where there is smoke there is fire Nonis was at the game he is not looking so much at richards as other players that could be added to a deal

In my experience, where there's smoke someone is getting high.
I don't think anyone is taking Richards. I think he will be back if the Kings make the playoffs. Unless his game improves greatly or injuries happen, the AHL is his home until late March

I agree with you I dont think Richards is going anywhere
But the kings like a few of the leafs assets and Leafs like weal ,Clifford and Nolan

That is why Leafs scouting staff was at the kings Blackhawks game and vive versa

It's going to take a lot more than Weal, Clifford, or Nolan to unload Richards. I don't think the Leafs would do it if you offered all 3.

I don't think he's losing money. Lower state tax I'm sure, and I don't think he has to pay the NHL escrow anymore.

Funny how no one considers the fact Nonis could be looking at the other team. Who has ever said he's scouting the Monarchs?

Smoke does not always equal fire.

Probably not but at the same time a team trading FOR Richards implies they think he has some value too, so DL isn't going to get taken behind the woodshed on this. No one is trading for Richards for 5 years to scratch him or waive him.

I said this here and in the trade board thread and I'm ok getting flamed for it because I strongly believe in it: pick one, maybe two if minor versions--pick, prospect, salary retained, big contract coming back. Otherwise we're better off holding on to Richards. ******** like Richards + Kempe + 2nd for Phaneuf is just having your cake and eating it too while saddling us with a different issue. Not gonna happen.

Depending on what else Toronto is wanting, I think the best bet is to take on Lupul. Cap hit is slightly less than Richards, has two fewer years than Richards and if he can stay healthy he can still produce. The biggest reason he's on the block is his health.

Oh, I'm going to flame you like the human torch!

J/K. There's no reason to flame for expressing a point of view. Like you, I don't think we should trade Richards for something of lesser value. In my view, the best thing that could happen would be he works on his game and improves it some and we bring him back to the Kings. I really don't think DL wants to trade Richards. I'm sure he would if a strong enough offer came along. But he's always liked Richards and though the teams back is against the wall, we're not in a position where desperate moves are required that would just bring the team more challenges in the long run. We're 1 point out of a playoff spot and just beat the Blackhawks minus Pearson and Voynov. The team obviously still has game left.

DL had to know there was a slim chance another team would take Richards on waivers. And he knows sending Richards to the minors doesn't exactly present a strong selling point to potential trading partners "Hey, what will you trade us for this guy who we don't have enough confidence can play at our 4th line level anymore". I think at the point DL sent Richards down he figured, either another team is going to claim him on waivers (not likely) or if we're keeping Richards (more likely), this is the strongest way to send the team a message, send Richards a message, and hopefully give him some motivation and an environment where he can/will work on finding/tweaking/improving his game so we can bring him back to the Kings playing at a higher level than he has been so far this season.

Thats kind of what I was thinking.

That's like saying a Ford Fiesta would be sweet if it could accelerate and handle like a Ferrari.

Don't knock the Fiesta too much. I've driven the Fiesta ST at the track a few times and it kept up with much more expensive cars in the corners, I did at least. That car is ridiculously fun to drive...

The ST is a pretty sweet car. Probably the best FWD car on the market. But I guess that wasn't your point. :sarcasm:

Fine, *****es! A Nissan Versa then. You get the point! ;)

Ugh.
