From the interview:

What is your mindset?

MR: "Just play. Try to help them, don't get in the way, just play."

MR: "It was unexpected, and quite the surprise, and it's not always smooth sailing. I'm here, whatever the situation it is, I am a hockey player and I play wherever I am told to play."

He certainly seems disappointed about it, but comes off more "DGAF let's just play hockey" in the interview.

@mayorNHL: Desptie others saying Leafs are no longer interested in Richards... as we reported, they made two real offers and now TML GM is scouting him

@AndyTonge1: To follow up: not only is Dave Nonis in town to scout tonight's #Monarchs game, but the Leafs also have Director of Pro scouting here.

@AndyTonge1: Interesting news - #MapleLeafs GM Dave Nonis will be scouting AHL Manchester game tonight. Sources say he is here to watch Mike Richards.

That's silly. According to Pierre LeBrun Nonis was already planning on going to this game before Richards was waived. Said the tickets were purchased well in advance.

Could just be a bonus, wouldn't doubt they're scouting our depth for a trade period.

And he could have added: "And for the amount of money I'm going to make in the next 5 plus years, I can play anywhere."

Yea. Over the years I've realized...GMs and scouts go to a TON of games. Quite often with no intention other than GP on what's going on. Doesn't always have to relate to being "Interested" in player xyz who plays for team ABC. Trade deadline coming up I'm sure Nonis is just scouting a little for GP and a little bit for moves.

But as far as Richards having ANY correlation with why Nonis is there is absurd.

Honestly Nonis has tons of NHL footage, from this year even, as to what kind of player Richards is. No need to go scout him at an AHL game in January.

I just don't see Richards playing 5 years in the AHL. lol I don't even see him playing 1. The guy will be back up with the Kings quicker than I think people are thinking.

I want to hear he's found his game again in a month and be back with the Kings to help them win another Championship. I have no doubt he'll be back.

God. Best thing in the world would be another Cup anyway, but the most satisfying thing in my sports world would be Richards getting a Conn Smythe while Brown leads the playoffs in scoring.

@DennisTFP: @BIGMAC0918 Here's reality: Leafs had pro scout at Hawks-Kings. Kings had Dir Player Personnel/scout at Leafs-Yotes. Leafs GM in Manchester

@AndyTonge1: For the people trying to completely write off Nonis being here, GMs don't scout games all that often. That's why they hire scouts.

@AndyTonge1: Not that its relevant, but the last time someone with "GM" in their title came to Manch to scout a game, Gaborik was traded to LA.

@TFP: Los Angeles Kings :: Kings active in trade market http://t.co/PmWKynPlnG

Where there's smoke there's fire?

There is discussion about Richards on the Fan590 now. John Shannon, who I detest "Richards is at 17% body fat,..,he lied to the Kings about getting in shape in the off-season, broke their trust in him."

How in the heck would he know his body fat ratio? Haha, did Shannon being him in for a physical?

Classic.

I've never really listened to John Shannon. Is he normally full of it? Maybe he's just blowing smoke or spreading rumors about MR's bf%.

It's also possible, though I don't know how unlikely, that he heard it from someone within the Kings org. They almost certainly gave everyone an assessment once they got back into camp. I know if I was a pro S&C coach I would be giving everyone an assessment the first day back, including bodyfat %. You want to know how everyone's treated their body in the off-season and what areas to work on the most. If they did test his bodyfat %, and it was at 17%, that's fairly bad for a hockey player who was supposed to be committed to training in the offseason. Though that partly depends on how they tested it.

I actually kinda hope the scouts aren't there to check out Richards. I'd much rather see him 100% committed and able to improve enough to come back and play solid hockey with the Kings and keep a lot of this team intact than have him traded away, especially for not much good in return.

Nonis knows what commodity Richards is. He's in Manchester to see if there are other players he can take with while he eats Richards contract! Miller, Forbort, Berube maybe, Oneil! I don't think anyone else! They probably want young players!

I hope you're right but I'm not sure you can ever go back once this kind of hammer has been dropped on you. Maybe a different team but not the Kings. I would expect Mike's agent has been working real hard trying to help the Kings find another fit for him.
